Gunshots as Okada riders resist arrest in Lekki (Punch)

Gunshots were heard in Lekki Phase 1 Gate, Lagos State as motorcycle (Okada) riders resisted the police from impounding their motorcycles.

In a viral video, people were seen running helter-skelter as sounds of gunshots were heard and weapons were thrown.

It was learnt that the incident created panic in the area.

Some of the eyewitnesses had alleged that there was a clash between the police and the Okada riders when the video surfaced online on Monday. Read more

2,000 okadas impounded in Lagos in massive raid (PMNews)

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday disclosed that about 2,000 motorcycles, popularly known as okadas were impounded in Lagos within two days.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde disclosed this at a ministerial news conference to mark the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in office.

The commissioner lamented the lawlessness of okada riders in the state, saying that while 1,000 okadas were impounded on Sunday, another 1,000 were impounded on Monday.

He said the government would not go back on the enforcement on okada riders from plying strategic routes in Lagos. Read more 

Accountant shot by robber dies following rejection by Lagos hospitals (Punch)

An accountant, Odiri Onosigho, has lost his life after being shot during a robbery operation at First Gate bus stop, Festac, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Odiri and his friend, Michelle, were at the bus stop around 6am waiting to board a bus to work.

It was learnt that the robbers suddenly appeared and shot the 32-year-old in the chest while attempting to dispossess him of his phone.

During the attack, it was learnt that passers-by and commuters ran away, but when Michelle returned to search for Odiri, he found him lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Read more

Instagram comedian, 34 others nabbed for Internet fraud (Punch)

An Instagram comedian and social media influencer, Nwagbo Chidera, also known as Pankeeroy, has been arrested for alleged Internet fraud.

Chidera was arrested alongside 34 others at the James Court in the Lekki area of Lagos State by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.

The other suspects include Chinedu Christian, Gafar Adedamola, Chuka Richard, Dibo Samson, Rotimi Damilola, Habeeb Damilola, Afolabi Michael, Adekanbi Adeola, Emeka Egwuatu, Adeyemi Olumide, Awokoya Iyaniwura, Efunnuga Samuel, Samson Egwuatu, Gbemileke Simeon, Omoyemi Owolabi and Farouk Olatunde.

Others are Orapitan Segun, Oladunjoye Olawale, Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Wasiu Sola, Olamiposi Damilola, Isieq Olamilekan, Abel Junior, Emmanuel Martins, Timilehin Jesse, Kelvin Kendal, Omotola Emmanuel, Rasaq Farouq, Oyelere Shakiru, Timileyin Damilare, Kelly Nwanou, Adedeji Olayinka, Balogun Ibrahim and Makinde Benjamin. How CCTV facilitated Nollywood actor, Baba Ijesha’s arrest for defiling minor (Punch)

Popular Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a minor.

PUNCH Metro gathered that a closed-circuit television installed in the victim’s home captured Omiyinka allegedly molesting the victim while her mother was not at home.

It was learnt that the victim’s mother, who had been suspecting that her daughter was being sexually abused, installed the CCTV to uncover the perpetrator.PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim’s mother monitored the situation in her home on her phone and to her dismay, she saw Omiyinka allegedly conducting himself in a suspicious manner around her daughter.
