Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday called on Muslims and Christians to unite against radical Islamist terrorism, stressing that it was a common enemy of all faiths.
Osinbajo urged Christians and Muslims to unite against fanatics committed to a twisted creed, which exploited the tenets of Islam, poverty, and exclusion “to recruit men and women and use children to perpetuate the most heinous atrocities.”
The vice president spoke at the 2019 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and Combat Support Arms Training Week held at the Ikeja Cantonment, in Lagos. Read more

In an authoritative autobiography that captured major challenges he encountered in journalism and politics, former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has lamented that the All Progressives Congress (APC) its founding leaders planned and worked for “is yet to find its political feet.”
Osoba, who chaired the committee that produced the APC Constitution, has equally noted that the dream of the party’s founding fathers “is to influence policies at the centre and start the process of restructuring the federation through devolution of functions and authorities to the states.” Read more
Nigeria and Benin sign landmark African trade accord (Vanguard)
Nigeria and Benin signed a landmark African trade pact alongside the continent’s heads of state at the African Union (AU) Summit, in Niger on Sunday.
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and Benin’s President Patrice Talon signed the agreement to applause at the summit in Niamey, the Nigerien capital, where the zone will officially be launched. Read more
Sister stabs elder brother to death (Nation)
A teenage mother, simply known as Ummi, of Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State was on Saturday, arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old brother, Sani Suleiman to death following a dispute.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Command, through its Badawa Divisional office, received a report at about 5:pm on Saturday that Ummi had stabbed her elder brother on his neck. Read more
AU Summit: Buhari signs AfCFTA agreement (Vanguard)
President Muhammadu Buhari in Niamey, Niger Republic, signed the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, making Nigeria the 53rd state on the continent to append its signature to the document. The president signed the agreement at exactly 10.47 am local time.
The signing of the agreement was the first event at the opening of the 12th Extra Ordinary Summit of the African Union on launch of the Operational Phase of the AfCFTA. Read more

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Southern part of the country on weekend cautioned the people of the area to remain vigilant even with the suspension of the controversial RUGA settlement for Fulani herdsmen.
The secretary of CAN in the 17 Southern States, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa made this warning in a statement issued to pressmen. Ajujungwa, who said the suspension of the programme by President Muhammadu Buhari may not be its end, said there was every indication “though it is claimed that it has been suspended, the underground work is still going on.” Read more
Truck crushes three to death in Ogun (Nation)
Commercial motorcycle operator and his two passengers were crushed to death on Saturday morning at Onibukun stretch of Sango – Idiroko road, Ogun State by a truck.
The accident which involved an Iveco truck marked EKY 644 WH and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number plate FFF 398WH, occurred when the motorcycle rider attempted to overtake the truck at a narrow portion of the road and got mauled along with his passengers, The Nation learnt.
