The Yoruba community in Borno State has been thrown into turmoil following devastating floods that have left hundreds of families displaced and struggling for survival.
President of the Yoruba Community in Borno, Saka Ganiyu Abiodun, made this known in Maiduguri on Tuesday, saying: “The floods have destroyed our homes, livelihoods, and hope.
“We are finding it difficult to access basic necessities like food, clean water, and shelter. Our community, known for its resilience, is on the verge of collapse.”
Abiodun made a passionate appeal to individuals, organisations, and government agencies to come to their aid, stating: “We cannot overcome this disaster alone. We need your help. Join hands with us to bring relief to the suffering men, women, and children. Together, we can restore hope and dignity to those affected.”
The floods have resulted in the displacement of hundreds of families, destruction of homes and infrastructure, and lack of access to basic necessities like shelter, food, clean water, and healthcare.
To alleviate the suffering, the community urgently requires relief materials, including food supplies, clean water, clothing, blankets, medical supplies, and temporary shelter. Financial donations are also needed to rebuild damaged homes and support families who have lost everything.
According to Abiodun, donations can be made to Yoruba Community Council, Maiduguri, First Bank of Nigeria, Maiduguri Branch, Account Number 2018253841. For further information or to coordinate donations, interested individuals can contact Saka Ganiyu Abiodun (President) on 08023549509, 07032137936 or Mohammed Bashir Adeboye (Secretary) on 09045510232, 08039769116.
