You think girls began to sleep with dogs today? Let me tell you about my friend and a horse!

This thing about girls sleeping with dogs didn’t start today. I know a friend who did it years back but not a dog, it was a horse!

Ha!

You say, “Na lie, how many people have horses?”

“Where did she see the horse?”

But when the story of girls sleeping with dogs began, you also said “it is a lie,” right? Or because dogs are everywhere, it means those with horses don’t do these bestial things?

You say it is a lie.

I’m just going to drop it here; those who know will know and those who doubt me, well, continue being a doubter.

Here is what happened.

She was my roommate and I know if I mention the university located in the middle belt of this country, some people may know or even guess know who I am talking about, I do not want to speak evil of the dead but here is what I know for a fact.

She was my roommate as I said and comes from a poor family. I mean, they were so poor my roommate, as a student sent money home to her mum and siblings…yes, that poor. They knew she had no real means of livelihood in school and yet, many times waited for her to send money for feeding. It was that bad…well, maybe she told her mother she worked, maybe that’s why the woman always called for more money. I just know I hear her saying she would send money or many times borrow money from me to send home. And yes, she returned all the money she borrowed from me.

Ok, so this happened in the middle of an election year in the mid-2000s.

Politicians were spending money, they were holding conventions and staying in hotels and especially where there were universities or higher institutions, girls were loaded in buses to be distributed to politicians or so called delegates to pass the time. My roommate was one of them. I was tempted to join them because they often came back to the hostel with cash! N50,000. N20, 000…ko woi!  Serious cash fa!

I didn’t go with them then not because I was pious or anything; that time, I was dating a guy who had friends in the cult and he warned me he would deal with me if he ever found out I went to meet the politicians. I said, “toh, I don hear you.”

Anyway, so my roommate soon became the main chic of this particular politician who was also based in the same state our university is. He was…well, he was a politician, sha.

After all the campaign event, she began to kind of see him…he was a married man of course. He gave her money and generally took care of her needs.

She would go for “kwanagida”, you know what “kwanagida” is, right?

She would go meet him in a guest house for the weekend.

One day she came back…crying. She didn’t say what it was.

For days, she just laid on her bed, would cry small, she would get up to use the toilet, would comeback asking for pain killers.

Me I even thought she had done an abortion because the rate at which she was consuming postinor…hummn.

She stopped going to classes for days!

You know now, no body is your boss in uni, if you like, attend classes, if not, that’s your business.

I think like maybe a week after that her yeye cries, she called me outside one evening; she said she may be dying. I said, “shuo, what is dying you?”

She told me she had done something that she knows is an abomination and that if she dies, I should please not tell her mother what killed her. You know immediately she said that, I just stood up from the cement we were sitting on and began to run away.

I was afraid she was going to tell me something I would never be able to say, ever and people would blame me later.

So I told her, as I was running, o, I said, “Whatever it is, I don’t want to hear it!”

See me see wahala!

Well, eventually, I came back, and asked her if she had killed someone, she said no, toh, if you haven’t killed anyone, why are you saying you will die?

She told me politician had been making her have sex with his horse!

Then he gave her plenty money!

I swear!

I swear!

I said, “You did what?”

How? When? Why?

She said she did it twice!

I said, “Twice and you didn’t die?”

Walahi. I became afraid for her…a horse! For money abi for juju?

I don’t know! She didn’t tell me, and frankly that time, I didn’t want to know. What I knew was already making me mad!

I followed her to a private hospital because she had money that time, though I advised her to go instead to the school’s teaching hospital in town. But even the doctor at the private hospital was asking her if she was raped because…she had marks all over her body!

We couldn’t even tell the doctor the real reason she had all the cuts and bruises on her body, fa!

After some days, I asked her, “Come sef, how did you do it with this horse; it climbed from the front ne abi from the back?”

You know, I was completely baffled at what she did for money!

Horse!

Have you seen a horse’s…whatchumacallit?

wayooooo!

She didn’t answer me. I think she became ashamed of herself. Isn’t it enough to be ashamed?

I told her, “Go home, tell your mother before you die like a chicken.”

Ama, she didn’t go immediately; she had severe wound …you know in the abunna…down below, now, is a horse a man that will be gentle with you?

You know, I just couldn’t believe what she told me!

Humn

What happened later?

She left school, she was very sick. Maybe she caught a horse disease or something…

She was smelling bad…maybe it was even an abortion she did. I may never know but why would she lie about a horse?

I heard she never recovered…you know, she never did; she was just losing weight, diminishing, getting smaller and smaller….like she had AIDS…maybe it was even AIDS but nobody wanted to find out the truth; the horse story prevailed. She died, in her mother’s house, I later found out. It was a terrible story that time on campus because some people too had heard the horse story.
