Zamfara govt inaugurates 30-member committee on gender affairs

Zamfara State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in partnership with United Nations Children’s  Education Fund (UNICEF) has inaugurated 30-member committee on Gender Affairs and Social Inclusion Technical Working Group (TWG) in the state.

The state commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun had inaugurated the committee at the command House in Gusau, the state capital said the committee will be headed by the permanent secretary of the ministry Dr. Habibu Yalwa in the state.

According to the commissioner, the technical working group is statewide with representatives across relevant MDAs, other stakeholders, and development partners in the state.

“It is the first of its kind in the history of the state. Currently, there is a Technical working group on GBV in the state under the Ministry, however emerging circumstances regularly with challenges on daily basis have further necessitated the need for the establishment of Technical working group that is wider.

“It is my expectation and I believe all of us will make good use of this new Technical working group to explore all avenue and use available opportunities to get hold of appropriate attention and shares that are suppose to be distributed appropriately with regards to gender positioning of the citizens of the state”.

“On behalf of my Ministry and all that have been supporting gender activities in the state, I wish to use this opportunities to inaugurate the Gender Affairs and Social inclusion Technical working group”.

Dr Nafisa assured that looking at the calibre of personnel involved and their strategic locations she believed that they are on the right track.

“It is my hope that you will work diligently and remain dedicated to the course of Gender mainstreaming and emancipation”.

In his remarks, UNICEF chief of field office in Sokoto, Michael Juma said UNICEF is collaborating with Zamfara state government to ensure full implementation of gender equality program for better future generations.
“United Nations Children’s Education Fund UNICEF will remain committed in supporting Zamfara state government to ensure successful implementation of gender balance”. (Tribune)
