Zamfara imposes curfew along Sokoto, Katsina borders

Zamfara State Government has ordered immediate restriction of movement along the state’s borders with Katsina and Sokoto from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Mannir Haidara, disclosed this to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.

Haidara explained that the directive was part of the measures being adopted by the state government to tackle banditry.

“As from today, the state government has ordered restriction of movement along Katsina/Zamfara and Sokoto/Zamfara borders. This include Yankara in Faskari local government, Katsina state border of Zamfara with Katsina state and Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto state from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am daily.

“This is to tackle the incessant kidnapping of travellers along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway.

“This is part of the state government’s measures to reduce and address kidnapping activities by bandits, especially along highways in the state,” he said.

The commissioner, therefore, advised motorists and travellers to abide by the order, as according to him the decision was for their own safety.

“Security agencies are directed to monitor the two borders and ensure full compliance,” he said.

The commissioner added that other measures put in place were not for public consumption, assuring that Zamfara state government would continue to take measures in order to curve the menace. (DailyTrust)
