1 dead as minibus collides with LAWMA truck (Nation)
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) yesterday said a minibus collided with a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) truck.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the accident occurred at about 11:59am on Monday night.
He confirmed that the incident resulted in the death of a LAWMA official in Ketu area of the state. Read more
Edo gov poll dispute: Anxiety as tribunal gives judgement today (Vanguard)
The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has fixed today to deliver its judgement on the case the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Mr Asue Ighodalo, filed to challenge the outcome of a gubernatorial poll that was held in the state September 21, 2024.
Justice Wilfred Kpochi-ledโs three-member tribunal communicated the judgement date to the parties in the early hours of yesterday.
The panel had on March 3, reserved its verdict after all the parties adopted their final briefs of argument. Read more
Fuel to sell for โas low as โฆ750โ per litre before year end โ NIPSS (Channels)
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) says that with Dangote Refinery and others coming on board, Nigerians should expect a crash in the price of premium motor spirit, better known as petrol.
The product was sold for less than โฆ200 per litre before the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu; it currently sells for around โฆ930 per litre, depending on the area.
However, the Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, says better days are ahead for the country. Read more
Lynched travellers: Tension in Edo as DSS arrests principal suspects (Punch)
Operatives of the Department of State Security have arrested two principal suspects involved in the killing of 16 Nigerians of northern extraction in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government last week.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpehbolo, Fred Itua, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the DSS in Uromi, following credible intelligence.
He noted that operatives of various security agencies were hunting for other key suspects involved in the unfortunate incidents. Read more
Waste Management: Lagos to shut Olusosun Dump, establish material recovery facility at Badagry (NewTelegraph)
The Lagos State Government is to set up a material recovery facility at Badagry in an effort to boost waste management.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that the initiative was part of LAWMAโs effort to reduce waste pollution and promote a circular economy.
Gbadegesin said that LAWMA would close the Olusosun dumpsite at Ojota and other dumpsites to pave the way for establishment of the facility and other waste-to-energy plants. Read more

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has revealed that efforts are in place to ensure the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport runs 24-hour operation, in a bid to make the route competitive.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Oyebanji expressed delight that the economy of the state has recorded significant improvement in the past two-and-a-half years, promising to do more in order to ensure a more sustainable development of the state and better living standard for the people.
Speaking on Monday night during the March edition of his monthly media chat, Meet Your Governor, Oyebanji said his government intends to make the Ekiti Airport a major hub, as well as a major driver of the economy, attracting more investors to the state and boosting the economic capacities of the citizens. FG borrows N13.21t from World Bank in 20 months (DailyTrust)
The World Bank has approved over N13.21 trillion ($8billion) as loans for different developmental projects for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government in the last 20 months, Daily Trust can report.
Analyses of the various loans indicated that they were targeted at several interventions in various sectors of the economy with three fresh loans amounting to $1.1 billion approved between Friday and yesterday.
Daily Trust gathered that the countryโs debt profile has hit N142 trillion, according to data published by the Debt Management Office (DMO). Read more

MADISON, Wisc. โ County judge Susan Crawford has won election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, according to a race call by the Associated Press.
Crawford defeated Brad Schimel, who received financial support from Elon Musk and an endorsement from President Donald Trump. Her victory means that the nonpartisan court’s 4-3 liberal majority will remain in place.
The race was projected to be the most expensive state supreme court election ever by The Brennan Center for Justice, a think tank and democracy advocacy group. Spending by the candidates and their supporters reportedly topped $100 million. Read more
