Cult reprisal attack claims 1 in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the killing of an alleged unidentified cultist in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the report to our correspondent via a telephone conversation.
Hundeyin stated that one suspect who he gave his name simply as ‘Jide’ has been arrested in connection to the killing, adding that the suspect is already in custody at the police headquarters helping the police to carry out their investigation.
Lagos police nab blacksmiths making guns for criminals (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it raided the factory of a blacksmith where illegal firearms were being fabricated for criminals.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on Tuesday while parading suspected criminals at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
“On September 11, 2023, around 4pm, based on actionable intelligence on a blacksmith who fabricated firearms for onward sales to criminals around Idata Village of Ibeju-Lekki, operatives of the command busted the factory and arrested one Musiliu Gbenga, 21, and Owolabi Azeez, 22. Read more
Phone dealer accuses policemen of extortion (Punch)
An engineer, Ibrahim Saliu, has accused some policemen attached to the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State of alleged extortion.
He said the policemen extorted N200,000 from him on Saturday.
Saliu told PUNCH Metro that trouble started when the policemen detained him and his brother, Olaiya Murtala, for not providing an identity card or the receipts for the iPhones found with his brother. Read more
Lagos CP orders removal of DPO over extortion (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the removal of the Divisional Police Officer of the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State over alleged extortion.
Earlier, an engineer, Ibrahim Saliu, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, claimed some policemen attached to the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State extorted N200,000 from him on Saturday.
According to Saliu, the officers, alongside the station’s DPO, threatened him and his brother with jail time should they fail to provide receipts for the phones seen with Saliu’s brother. Read more
Man unleashes dogs on policemen to evade arrest (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a man, Damian Kelikume, for allegedly locking himself inside his apartment and unleashing his dogs on detectives who came to arrest him, at No. 42 Nnamdi Azikiwe Road, Railway compound Ebute-Metta, Lagos State.
The 35-year-old was on Monday arraigned before Chief Magistrate A. O. Akinde of a Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Metta, on five counts of stealing, assault, causing bodily harm, trying to evade arrest, and releasing dogs on detectives.
Kelikume was said to have unleashed the dogs on the detectives who were at his residence on October 9, 2023, around 5.30pm to arrest him. Read more
Lagos task force arrests 71 suspects, recovers arms (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have said no fewer than 71 suspects were arrested in multiple raids of criminal hideouts in the state.
The Director, Press & Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, disclosed this in a statement signed on behalf of the Agency’s Chairman, Shola Jejeloye, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
Abdulraheem noted that the suspects were arrested in different locations across the state in a bid to rid the state of criminal elements, curb the spread of hard drugs, and maintain the safety of lives and properties in the state. Read more
Man jailed for kidnapping, rape (Punch)
An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting in Tinubu Lagos Island on Friday convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old man, Dayo Bakare, to 34 years imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 27-year-old woman in 2012.
Chief Magistrate Adetokunbo Omoyele sentenced Bakare after she found him guilty of the offences preferred against him by the police.
The convict was arraigned on November 17, 2012, for conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse, detention, kidnapping, assault, stabbing, and grievous harm. Read more
Navy intercepts boat with 44 bags of rice (Punch)
The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft on Wednesday intercepted a wooden fishing boat laden with bags of rice in the creeks of Agbara, Lagos State.
The boat containing 44 bags of parboiled rice was apprehended by the NNS patrol team during a routine patrol.
Suspected owners of the fishing boats and the contrabands allegedly took to their heels on sighting the NNS patrol boat on the water. Read more
Lagos police declare man wanted for murder (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, declared Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo wanted over the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Lagos police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, and shared on the command’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Best was described to be “approximately 5’9 ft tall and hails from Abia State”.
Court discharges armed robbery suspect due to absence of witnesses (Nation)
An Ikeja High Court Tuesday discharged Ojo Gbenga of the offence of armed robbery due to the absence of witnesses.
Justice Oyindamola Ogala struck out the two-count charge of armed robbery and conspiracy brought against the suspect by the state.

Apprentice gets life for defiling employer’s 9-year-old daughter (Nation)
Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court Tuesday sentenced an apprentice, Godwin Ogboniya, to life imprisonment for sexually defiling his employer’s nine-year-old daughter.
Ogboniya was arraigned before court on a one-count charge of sexual assault by penetration of the minor by the state.
Delivering judgment in the matter, Justice Soladoye held that the prosecution has proved the elements of defilement against the convict beyond reasonable doubt. Read more

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has revealed that the man filmed firing shots to celebrate the reopening of the Ladipo Market in Lagos, has been identified.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, a man was seen firing shots into the air while onlookers cheered him on.
