160 new infections take Nigeria’s Covid-19 caseload 56,177

There have been 160 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Nigeria in the past 24 hours.

In an announcement via its Twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said there are now 56,177 confirmed cases in the most populous country in Africa, with 44,088 the previously reported cases now recovered and discharged.

Nigeria’s death toll from the coronavirus has now risen to 1,078, after two more deaths were reported in the past day.

The NCDC made the announcement Saturday night.

Africa has recorded more than 1.3 million cases and over 32,000 deaths.

As of September 12, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 32,356. There are 1,339,171 confirmed infections and 1,076,207 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 has exceeded 28 million. According to a count by Johns Hopkins University, more than 28.6 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and nearly 917,000 have died, while about 19.2 million patients have recovered.
