2 in court for stealing firm’s inverter batteries (Punch)
Two men, Olaleye Oladeji and Jamiu Mustapha, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a telecommunications firm’s inverter batteries worth N1.6 million.
The defendants are facing three counts of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property preferred against them by the police.
Oladeji and Mustapha were arraigned before Magistrate Kafayat Tella. Read more
Man arraigned for threatening chief, family members with machete (Punch)
A man, Sikiru Tijani, was on Tuesday arraigned before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State for allegedly assaulting people and forcefully taking possession of a piece of land belonging to the Thomas Olufuwa family in the Idiapaye area of the state.
The 59-year-old was arraigned on five counts of assault, forcible entry and wilful property damage.
According to the police prosecutor, Rita Momoh, the offences committed contravene Section 170(1)(b) and are punishable under Sections 412, 53, 52, 172, 3and 50 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Read more
Woman arraigned for supplying police false information (Punch)
A woman, Blessing Udoh, was on Monday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State for allegedly misleading the Nigeria Police with false information on a murder case.
The police arraigned the defendant before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on two counts of provision of misleading and false information.
The 21-year-old was alleged to have told policemen at the Satellite Divisional Headquarters and the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti that one Christopher Ibekwe murdered one Moses Chidi by pushing him into the river.
Cleric, others arraigned for manslaughter, stealing (Punch)
An Islamic cleric, Hafeez Imoleayo, and three others were on Monday arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged manslaughter and obtaining of N127. 6m.
Imoleayo, 43, alongside Mushirafat Salaam, 59; Saidi Ajayi,42; and Uthman Rahmon 27, is facing 11 counts of conspiracy, compelling action by intimidation, unlawful possession of charm, stealing, threatening to kill, obtaining money by false pretence, involuntary manslaughter, perjury and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, told the court that the incident happened between 2010 and 2022, at No. 3, Olabode Agboola Close, off Erunwen Junction Ikorodu area of Lagos. Read more
Man arraigned for stealing N5m clothes (Punch)
A 44-year-old man, Alli Yusuf, was on Friday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State for alleged burglary and theft.
Yusuf was accused of allegedly burgling the warehouse of one Prince Chuks and stealing two bales of clothes valued at N5m.
He was arraigned before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka, on three counts of burglary and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, holding a brief for Haruna Magaji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 2, 2023, at Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, in the Lagos Island area of the state. Read more
NDLEA nabs lady with 39 cartons of tramadol (Punch)
Men of a special unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency intensified their anti-drug operations last week and over the weekend with the clampdown on some drug kingpins in Lagos State, recovering multi-billion naira worth of drugs.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.
According to the statement, a female head of one of the syndicates, Ebele Nwankwo, was arrested last Wednesday at her residence, House 6, C Close, 3rd Avenue, the Festac area of Lagos, shortly after she returned from a warehouse at Plot 3432, Sola Akinsola Street, Divine Estate, Amuwo Odofin where she loaded eight cartons of tramadol 225mg into an unmarked white Honda Pilot SUV.
Man in court for setting police station on fire (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, arraigned a 27-year-old man, Wasiu Akingbola, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba for allegedly assaulting a policeman and setting a police station on fire.
Akingbola is facing a four-count of assault, arson, inflicting bodily harm and belonging to a secret cult.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Kokoye Olusegun, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the alleged offences on May 29, 2023. Read more
Lagos police rescue 9 children during cult initiation (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has rescued a nine-year-old boy (name withheld) who is the youngest among eight other children, from cult initiation in Lagos.
The nine children, all male, and a 14-year-old being the oldest were said to have been rescued in the Mushin area of Lagos.
The state Police Public Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this on Thursday, saying the investigation was still ongoing. Read more
26-year-old man in court for stealing employer’s bus (Punch)
A man, Soji Owowa, had been arraigned before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling his employer’s minibus valued at N3.2m for N550,000.
Owowa was arraigned on Thursday on two counts of stealing.

The woman who lives in the Oko Oba area of Lagos confessed to the offence while being paraded by the police at the state headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday.

2 jailed for hawking hard drugs (Punch)
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a woman, Adeola Adetutu, and Godwin Johnson to two years imprisonment each for hawking Skushies and hard drugs.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo handed down the sentence to the duo after they both pleaded guilty to the separate charges made against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Adetutu was jailed for two years while Johnson was also sentenced to two years imprisonment. Read more
Waste collector caught stealing UNILAG’s internet cables arraigned (Punch)
A waste collector, Agoro Yusuf, was on Tuesday arraigned for allegedly cutting the Internet cables at the University of Lagos with the intent to steal them.
The police arraigned Yusuf before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka who was holding a brief for Magistrate S.A. Salawu, at a Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, on three counts of stealing.

Lagos court remands teenagers over alleged defilement of minor (Nation)
An Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday remanded two 17-year-olds at a borstal home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for allegedly defiling their 11- year-old neighbour.
The teenagers, both students who lived with their parents at 2, Oguntolu Street, Shomolu, Lagos, committed the alleged offence between April and June.

Again police arrest security operatives, others for ‘‘extorting’’ Apapa motorists (Nation)
The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said it arrested a cop, an official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), three personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), a staff member of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and 23 civilians over alleged extortion of motorists in the Apapa area of the state.
The latest arrest took place barely five days after the command apprehended three policemen, an FRSC official and a LASTMA officer for extorting truck drivers and motorists along Mile 2.
According to spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday by the special Taskforce on Extortion by uniformed men inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police (CP) Idowu Owohunwa. Read more
