2 doctors arraigned for involuntary manslaughter in Lagos (Punch)
Two medical doctors, Michael Atiba and Ugbeye Michael, were on Monday arraigned before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient, Ejiro Ugorobi.
Atiba, a doctor at the Gbagada Hospital, and Michael, a consultant with the National Orthopaedic Hospital, are facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter preferred against them by the Lagos State Government.
The state prosecution counsel, A. O. Azeez, told the court that the offence happened on October 21, 2023.
4 arrested for faking abduction in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four persons for staging the abduction of a lady identified as Agnes Ogbeh.
It said the suspects included the alleged victim, Ogbeh, and three others identified as Margaret Itodo (25), Esther Anyanwu (24), and Anthony Chinakwe (24).
The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrests in a statement with a video of the fake kidnapping posted on his official X account on Friday. Read more
Police bust fake drink factory in Lagos, arrest four (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, announced that its operatives busted a fake drink factory in the Agege area of the state and arrested four suspects connected to the illegal factory.
This comes as the police stated they had initiated an investigation into the alleged production and distribution of counterfeit drinks by the suspects.

Man rapes minor for 3 months, bags 20-year jail term (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a man, Dennis Okubiat, to 20 years imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl for three months, which caused urinary incontinence.
Justice Ismail Ijelu held that the victim had testified that she went for evangelism and, in the process, went to check on the convict, who had not been coming to church after the pastor of her church said they should visit members who had not been seen in church for some time.
He said that she testified that because she respected Okubiat as an elder of their church, she went to check on him and then helped him wash plates and clean his house. Read more
Police arraign 42-year-old man for car theft (Punch)
A 42-year-old, Dada Ajusegiri, was arraigned before Magistrate L. Y. Balogun of the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of alleged car theft.
The defendant faced two counts of felony for committing theft by stealing a 2007 Honda Accord saloon car valued at N1.8m.
The prosecution alleged that on May 16, 2022, the defendant, employed as a driver by one Kayode Ajala, was entrusted with the car keys to run errands. However, the defendant reportedly took the car and never returned it. All efforts to contact him proved futile. Read more
Man bags life jail for defiling 11-year-old thrice (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a man, Ojo Oladeji, to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old minor three times, in an uncompleted building.
The judge held that the prosecution was able to prove the charge of defilement beyond reasonable doubt against Ojo.
Oshodi said that the confessional statement of the convict, the medical report and the direct evidence from the survivor showed that he committed the offence.
Lagos police arraign truck driver for stealing N3m flour (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned one Mukailu Mohammed before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope of the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conspiring to commit a felony and stealing.
The defendant was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing bags of flour worth N3.6m from Golden Penny Flour Mill, Apapa, Lagos.
It was gathered that an investigation was initiated on a report filed by the complainant on August 9, 2023.
Middleman bags 11-year jail term for N48.5m theft (Punch)
An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting at Tinubu Square, Lagos Island, on Monday, convicted and sentenced an agent, Okwudili Ezeobi, to 11 years imprisonment for swindling a businessman of the sum of N48,580,000 under false pretence of helping him purchase phones from Dubai.
Magistrate Azeez Alogba ordered the convict to pay the complainant the full amount of N48,580,000 back on or before May 22, 2024, or serve the 11-year jail term.
Ezeobi was arraigned on June 20, 2022, on two counts of obtaining false pretence and stealing preferred against him by the police. Read more
Man bags life imprisonment after defiling neighbour’s 5-yr-old daughter (Vanguard)
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a man, Ugochukwu Onuoha, to life imprisonment for defiling a five-year-old minor, his neighbour’s daughter.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, in his judgment, held that the prosecution had established beyond reasonable doubt, the charge of defilement against Onuoha.
Oshodi said the prosecutrix (survivor) was a child at the time of the incident.
He said the prosecutrix’s mother’s evidence that Onuoha apologised and promised not to do it again was an admission which corroborated the prosecutrix’s evidence. Read more
Police arrest 2,329 suspects for robbery, kidnap, cultism in Lagos (Vanguard)
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Adegoke Fakoade, on Tueday, disclosed that 2,329 suspects were arrested for various offences ranging from robbery, cultism and kidnapping in 100 days in Lagos.
CP Fakoade made the disclosure at the Police Officers Mess in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area, GRA while briefing journalists on the command’s scorecard wsince he assumed office on December 14, 2023.
He also disclosed that 2,253 suspects had been prosecuted in the period under review, while several others were being processed for prosecution. Read more
Navy intercepts 193 bags of narcotics, arrest suspect (Nation)
The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT patrol team has intercepted a large wooden boat carrying 193 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 7,443 kilograms, and arrested a suspect, Asamani.
According to a statement made available by the Base Information Officer of NNS BEECROFT, Hussaini Ibrahim, the contraband and suspect were seized along Badagry waterways, on Saturday during a routine patrol of the Navy Ship BEECROFT patrol team.
The operation was made possible through the effective utilization of Nigerian Navy Maritime Domain Awareness facilities, including Falcon Eye Alignment and the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability Centre, along with human intelligence. Read more
