Court remands 2 for diesel theft (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned two defendants, Jeremiah Sefan and Williams David, for allegedly conspiring to steal 400 litres of diesel worth N420,000.

They were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope and charged with two counts of conspiracy and theft.

The charges alleged that Jeremiah and Williams stole 400 litres of diesel belonging to Fejiro Joel, who owns an ice-making factory. Read more

Mechanic in court for stealing 3 cars (Punch)

A 41-year-old mechanic, Bebe Akapo, was arraigned on Tuesday in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for the alleged theft of three cars.

The defendant, whose address remains unknown, faces charges of felony and stealing.He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Driver jailed 4 years for stealing phone (Punch)

The Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, on Monday, convicted and sentenced a 27-year-old driver, Adeniyi Moses, to four years imprisonment for stealing a Samsung phone worth N105,000.

Magistrate Patrick Nwaka handed down the sentence after Adeniyi was found guilty of the alleged theft.

Adeniyi committed the offence on January 17, 2023, under the pretext of begging for alms at his former place of employment, where he had been sacked.

He stole a Samsung phone worth N105,000 from one Okafor Ifeanyi. Read more

Suspects supplying adulterated drink to Benin Republic arrested in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Ogujiofor Emeka and Desmond Chima during a raid on an adulterated alcoholic drink-producing factory at Oke-Arin Market, in the Lagos Island area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said the suspects usually supplied some of the drinks to Benin Republic.

He explained that the tactical team of the state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, raided the illegal factory on June 4, 2024, adding that several adulterated drinks were recovered. Read more

Lagos police arrest 18-year-old for stealing LED lights on Third mainland bridge (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad on Friday arrested a suspected vandal, Mubarak Abdullahi (18), around 10am for removing LED road stud lights on the newly-renovated Third Mainland Bridge.

This was made known in a statement shared on X.com on Friday.

According to the statement, the suspect, a resident of Makoko, had already removed 10 of the lights when he was caught red-handed by the operatives on patrol. Read more

Four-man car theft syndicate arrested in Lagos, vehicles recovered (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Kazeem Ahmed, who specialised in using fabricated master keys to steal vehicles in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The police also arrested three suspects, Ethel Ohamadike, Young Eze, 31, and Chukwuwando Okoye, 38, for buying the stolen vehicles from Ahmed.

Lagos provides shelter for child abused in viral video (Punch)

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it had provided shelter for the 12-year-old girl being abused by 32-year-old Funmi Faith in a viral video.

The state Ministry of Youth and Social Development disclosed this in a statement by its Director, Public Affairs, Olabisi Adeola, obtained by PUNCH Metro.

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday said it arrested Funmi for the alleged maltreatment.

The commissioner of the ministry, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, however, emphasised that the ministry would take proper care of the teenager. Read more

NDLEA arrests 4 Hajj pilgrims with 2.2kg cocaine in Lagos hotel (Punch)

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency intercepted a cocaine shipment at Emerald Hotel, Ladipo, Oshodi, Lagos, on Wednesday and arrested four suspects, attempting to smuggle the drug to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage.

This was made known in a statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, shared on the agency’s website on Thursday.

According to the statement the suspects, Usman Kamorudeen (31), Olasunkanmi Owolabi (46), Fatai Yekini (38), and Ayinla Kemi (34), had prepared 200 cocaine pellets (2.20kg) to ingest before their flight. Read more

Police arrest suspected Internet fraudster over car theft, N30m (Punch)

Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos have arrested a suspected Internet fraudster, Joshua Olawuyi, for allegedly obtaining a vehicle under pretenses and stealing N30 million.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

She said that the command, under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatoye Durosinmi, arrested the suspect after receiving a petition. Read more

Man jailed 14 years for attempted sexual assault on minor (Punch)

The Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, presided over by Justice Rahman Oshodi, has sentenced a 54-year-old man, Monday John, to 14 years in prison for attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him by the Lagos State Government and was sentenced accordingly.

The incident occurred on October 16, 2020, at No. 27 Olarenwaju Street, Bariga, where John attempted to penetrate the victim’s vagina with his finger. Read more

The Federal High Court in Lagos adjourned until June 25 for mention in the case against celebrity bartender Pascal Okechukwu (a.k.a Cubana Chief Priest), over abuse of the Naira.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned him on April 17.

Customs Marine Command intercepts N96m hemp (Nation)

The Western Marine Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 17 sacks of hemp valued at N96 million.

The Controller of the command, Paul Bamisaiye, made this known while handing over the seized bags of hemp to NDLEA for further investigation yesterday in Lagos.
