2019: Oba of Lagos endorses Buhari, Ambode, Obasa (NewTelegraph)
The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Rilwan Osuolale Akiolu, has urged Nigerians, particularly Lagosians, to ensure the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in the 2019 general elections.
Speaking yesterday at his palace when the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in the country paid him a courtesy visit in the course of their quarterly meeting in Lagos, the first class monarch said Buhari, Ambode and Obasa have performed excellently well in the course of their duties. Group harps on need for PVC collection (Independent)

Ambode urges religious organisations to promote peace (Guardian)
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has appealed to religious bodies to help to ensure that the 2019 general elections were conducted peacefully through constant prayers for the country.
Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, made the call at a Muslim Leaders Interactive Forum organised by the Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS). Read more

National Youth Games: Team Lagos ready for zonal elimination contests (ThisDay)
Ahead of the 4th National Youth Games (AYG) which is slated for Ilorin, Kwara State in September, Lagos State teams are battle ready for the South-west zonal eliminations that hold in Ogun State from Tuesday, August 7 to 11th.
Team Lagos will compete in seven team sports: cricket (male), handball, football (male), basketball, hockey (male), volleyball (female) and beach volleyball (female). Read more
Ambode approves recruitment of 1,200 teachers (Punch)
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Friday approved the recruitment of 1200 additional teachers for junior and senior secondary schools in the state.
The governor, at the last quarterly town hall meeting at Ibeju Lekki, had promised that his administration would employ more teachers into public schools to meet up with the level of manpower required to improve the quality of learning in the state. Read more

Confirmed Ebola cases rise to 13 in DRC’s latest outbreak (News24)
The number of confirmed cases in Democratic Republic of Congo’s new outbreak of the Ebola virus has risen to 13, including three deaths, the health ministry said late on Saturday.
The World Health Organisation has warned that this new outbreak of the deadly virus in North Kivu province poses a particular challenge as the region is a “war zone” with several active armed groups and thousands of displaced people. Read more

Iran men’s canoe polo national team gained victory over New Zealand at 2018 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships.
In a Saturday match, Iranian squad won New Zealand 6-4 and finished the 2nd round of the event with gaining the 5th rank of Group MH.
