296 new cases take Nigeria’s Covid-19 caseload to 55,456

There have been 296 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Nigeria in the past 24 hours.

In an announcement via its Twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said there are now 55,456 confirmed cases in the most populous country in Africa, with 43,334 the previously reported cases now recovered and discharged.

Nigeria’s death toll from the coronavirus has now risen to 1,067, after five more deaths were reported in the past day.

The NCDC made the announcement Tuesday night.

Africa has recorded more than 1.3 million cases and over 30,000 deaths.

As of September 8, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 31,494. There are 1,306,157 confirmed infections and 1,045,083 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 has surpassed 27 million. According to a count by Johns Hopkins University, there are now close to 27.5 million people diagnosed with the coronavirus and 894,796 have died. More than 18.4 million people have recovered.
