Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the assault of a young woman accused of theft at a boutique on Lagos Island.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests yesterday, assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects.

The incident, which has sparked outrage, occurred Sunday at a boutique reportedly identified as Don Maserati Classic Boutique, opposite Tantalizers on Lagos Island. Read more

Lagos teacher risks punishment for assault on toddler – Ministry (Nation)

The Lagos State Government has said that Mrs. Stella Nwadigbo, a teacher who assaulted a toddler in a school in Ikorodu, has contravened the Child Rights Act and the Lagos State Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection, and is at risk of being punished according to the state’s laws.

Nwadigbo, a teacher at Christ Mitots Nursery and Primary School, Ikorodu, Lagos, was seen unlawfully and indecently assaulting 3-year-old pupil, Abayomi Micheal in a viral video on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for struggling with a task.

A statement by Kayode Sutton, the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, noted that the teacher’s action was against Lagos laws. Read more

Man jailed 18 months for impersonating EFCC operative (Nation)

Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced a man,Tobi Paul-Augustine, to 18 months’ imprisonment for impersonating an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Oshodi considered the severity of the offence. He noted that Augustine’s actions had undermined public confidence in the agency.

He said: “Section 380 of the Criminal Law prescribes a punishment of three years’ imprisonment for the offence of impersonation.

Teacher arrested for allegedly physically abusing 3-year-old boy (Punch)

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest of a teacher following a viral video showing the suspect allegedly physically abusing a three-year-old boy at a school in Ikorodu.

The announcement was made in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

Murder suspect Ayomide Adeleye charged, remanded, police insist (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that Ayomide Adeleye, who confessed to killing Christianah Idowu, his friend and neighbour, has been charged with murder and remains in custody for the offence.

This clarification was issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in response to reports suggesting that Adeleye was not being held in any Lagos correctional facility.

In his statement, Hundeyin said, “We can confirm that Ayomide Adeleye was charged with murder and was remanded for the same offence.

“It is also a fact that another person bearing the same name was remanded for a different offence and released in April 2024, long before the Ayomide we are talking about committed his offence. Read more

Arabic teacher jailed 21 years for attempted sexual assault of minor (Punch)

The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced an Arabic teacher, Oladosu Sakiru, to 21 imprisonment for attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old female pupil.

The trial judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, sentenced Sakiru following his guilty plea to the amended two counts of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.

Oshodi, in his judgment, reprimanded the convict for breaching the trust the parents of the survivor had in him for enrolling their children in the Islamic school. Read more 

#EndSARS: Police recover rifles stolen from armoury during protest (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command said it had recovered three rifles that were parts of the weapons stolen from its armoury during the #EndSARS protest.

The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the state command headquarters on Saturday.

He said the rifles were found on December 27, 2024, after being kept in a bag placed on the rooftop of a building at Idunsagbe Street in the Lagos Island area of the state. Read more 

Suspected kidnappers kill vigilante, abduct colleague in Lagos community (Punch)

A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Kayode Goriola, has been killed by suspected kidnappers in Igbe community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred at past midnight on Saturday.

Lagos to probe DJ’s husband over child molestation allegations (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has waded into the child molestation scandal involving Ohis Emmanuel, the husband of popular disc jockey, Kudirat Gbemisola, also known as DJ Kulet.

DJ Kulet had taken to her social media handle on Monday to announce her separation from her husband, alleging that he had been involved in child molestation and infidelity.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said, yesterday, that its operatives have arrested a US-trained Hollywood and Nollywood filmmaker, Emeka Mbadiwe, who is also a motivational speaker at his Lekki Hotel room over illicit drug shipment.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, NDLEA’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, said the suspect was arrested on January 1 at his Lekki Hotel room.

He said “NDLEA officers on Friday 27th December 2024 arrested a US-trained Hollywood and Nollywood filmmaker, Emeka Mbadiwe, who is also a motivational speaker at his Lekki Hotel room. Read more 

NDLEA nabs popular Lagos socialite over illicit drugs shipments from China (Vanguard)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said on Sunday that its operatives arrested a wanted drug kingpin and Lagos socialite, 61-year-old Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye on Wednesday 1st January 2025 in her mansion at Okota area of Lagos following the interception of a truckload illicit drug consignment from her staff same day.

Spokesman of the agency, Femi Babafemi said, “Known in the drug underworld as ‘Iya Ruka’, Alhaja Ajoke as she is fondly called in social circle, has her true identity shrouded in mystery for years while she remained on the wanted list of NDLEA for leading one of the drug cartels operating from Mushin area of Lagos. Man in court for allegedly stealing N.3m hair weave-on (Leadership)

A 25-year-old man, Onyebuchi Emelumba, on Wednesday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing hair weave-on valued at N300,000.

The defendant is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 6, at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo. Read more
