The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team said no fewer than 3,089 cases of sexual and domestic violence were reported in the state in the past eight months.
The State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Adeniji Kazeem, made the disclosure on Monday in Lagos at a news conference commemorating “The Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month’’.
The theme for the 2018 celebration is: “Securing the Home against Violence: Everyone’s Responsibility.”
Kazeem said that the 2018 figure increased over 200 per cent compared to 2017 figure of 1,044.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry for Justice, Mrs Funmilola Odunlami, also said that seven people were convicted during the period under review.
