Lagos State has reported a significant rise in tuberculosis (TB) cases, with 32,000 patients recorded in 2024, up from 18,541 cases in 2023.
This increase has prompted the wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, to launch a new initiative aimed at bolstering grassroots advocacy in the fight against TB.
During a media briefing at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu outlined the initiative, which includes the investiture of female chairpersons and the wives of Local Government Area (LGA) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairpersons. This effort will officially kick off the STOP TB Partnership in Lagos and inaugurate the Lagos State TB Steering Committee, essential components in the state’s aggressive campaign to eradicate TB. A non-partisan organization, The Campaign Against Impunity (CAI) Nigeria, has urged the Lagos State House of Assembly to respect the autonomy of local governments and adhere to the Supreme Court judgment that grants this autonomy.
The call comes in light of the Assembly’s recent indefinite suspension of Hon. Jelili Sulaiman, the council chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, due to what they described as non-compliance and defiance.

Nigeria, Brazil set to operate direct flights under BASA arrangements (Independent)

During the discussions, both envoys emphasized the need for new BASA arrangements to reflect current realities in the aviation world. This meeting stems from the mutual interests shared by President Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a meeting in Addis Ababa in February 2024, where they agreed to reinitiate the BASA arrangements, recognizing the cultural and economic ties between Nigeria and Brazil. Four people have been taken to hospital after a school bus carrying more than 40 children overturned in Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said the bus crashed in County Down with 43 schoolchildren and one driver onboard, with eight treated at the scene near Carrowdore for their injuries.

Qantas Airways apologized to passengers on a recent flight from Sydney to Japan after playing the R-rated Christy Hall drama, which one traveler described as “40 minutes of penis and boobs.”
“The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson told The Guardian. “All screens were changed to a family-friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible.
