The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed a total number of 321 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases in the country.
The NCSC made the announcement Monday night via tweet.
It said the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria is now 52, 548 with 39,257 patients discharged and 1004 deaths recorded.
Africa has more than 1.1 million cases and more than 27,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization’s Africa Region.
As of August 23, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 27,779. There are 1,187,937 confirmed infections and 906,691 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
South Africa accounts for more than half the cases on the continent, with more than 600,000 infections.
Worldwide, the number of those diagnosed with COVID-19 has exceeded 23 million. More than 23.6 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and 15.2 million have recovered. More than 811,000 have died, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
