Lagos police arraign 4 for stealing phones (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned four men for allegedly stealing telephone handsets and money.
The suspects were also accused of assaulting a policeman, an action likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The defendants, Abiodun Akinola, Abdullahi Jimoh, Olalekan Eyiomo, and Omomuzo Arume, were arraigned on Monday in a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka, on eight counts of conspiracy, theft and assault.
The defendants were alleged to have stolen one Samsung A03 valued at N120,000, the property of one Anosike Henry and an iPhone 11 valued at N250,000, and the property of one Ogadimma Oluwabukola. Read more
Whitney: Lagos govt files manslaughter charge against Chrisland (Punch)
The Lagos State Government has filed two counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless and negligent acts against Chrisland School Limited over the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran, who died during the school’s inter-house sports activities in February.
Chirsland, alongside four others – Ademoye Adewale, Kuku Fatai, Belinda Amao and Nwatu Victoria – who are also staff of the school, will be arraigned on Thursday before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
The Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins, filed the charges on behalf of the state government.
According to the DPP, on February 9, 2023, at about 1 pm at Agege Sports Stadium, they all negligently killed Whitney Adeniran by not ensuring her safety, adding that they all acted in a reckless and negligent manner that endangered human life.
Man faces prosecution for N4.8m fraud in Lagos (Punch)
A 38-year-old man, Idowu Afeez, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly defrauding one Banjo Samuel of the sum of N4,8 million.
Afeez allegedly defrauded Samuel under pretence to purchase a Toyota Highlander 2013 model from the United States of America on his behalf but converted the money for his own use in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.
Idowu was brought before Magistrate S.O Obasa on three-count bordering on felony to wit, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing preferred against him by the police. Read more
Fake LASTMA officer jailed 2 years (Punch)
The Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi on Monday, 27 March, 2023 sentenced a fake Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Officer, Omotutu Bamidele, to a 2- year jail term for impersonating and extorting money from motorists across Lagos.
The convicted fake LASTMA officer was arraigned by LASTMA on a 2-count charge of impersonating as a public officer by claiming to be a staff of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (S.78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015)” and obtaining money by fraudulent trick (Sec. 323 of the Criminal Law, Lagos State) before the court.
The PUNCH reports that Bamidele was arrested a few days ago on Olu Holloway Road, around the Alfred Rewane area of Ikoyi by a LASTMA Monitoring/Surveillance team led by the Zonal Head, Ashafa Moyosore. Read more
How pastor raped teenager while playing sermon (Punch)
A teenager has narrated how she was allegedly raped and deflowered by one Pope Paul, a youth pastor in the Deeper Life Bible Church in Lagos state.
The 19-year-old survivor appeared before the sexual offences and domestic violence court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.
The survivor said the abuse started when she was 15 years old and living with the cleric.
Narrating her experience, the survivor told the court that she knew the cleric when she started residing with his wife identified as Sister Lydia. Read more
Lagos tenant stabs friend to death during argument (Punch)
A woman, Annie Ofili, has allegedly stabbed her friend, Glory Okon, to death at her residence on the Greenville Estate, Badore, in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that on the day of the incident, Okon paid Ofili a visit at home.
While the two of them were discussing at the suspect’s residence, an argument ensued between them and the argument degenerated into a scuffle.
It was learnt that during the scuffle, Ofili reached for a knife in the kitchen and allegedly used it to stab her friend in the neck. Read more
Worker claims Lagos petrol station, steals property (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a 52-year-old man, Kamarudeen Adeniyi, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged forgery and stealing in the state.
The defendant is facing four-count bordering on forgery, stealing, malicious damage, and a breach of public peace.
The police prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2015, at Ajibade Oil Nigeria Limited, at Morogbo, in the Badagry area of the state. Read more
Worker to die by hanging for killing grandma, daughter (Punch)
A High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Monday sentenced a domestic worker, Joseph Ogbu, to death by hanging for killing his employer, an 89-year-old grandmother, Adejoke John, and her daughter, Oreoluwa, at their home in the Surulere area of the state.
Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay handed down the verdict after she found the convict guilty of three counts of armed robbery and murder.
After Ogbu was arrested, the Lagos State Government arraigned him on October 22, 2019.
He was charged with three counts of armed robbery and murder preferred against him by the state. Read more
Pastor accused of defiling member’s daughter to file no-case submission (Punch)
A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday heard how a pastor, Chris Mcdouglas, allegedly defiled a 17-year-old daughter of a member of his church.
A medical doctor, Mrs Maria Fadaka, told the court while testifying in the ongoing trial of Mcdouglas, a pastor at Peculiar Generation Assembly Church, Lagos.

Court convicts wanted businesswoman for N47m fraud (Punch)
A businesswoman, Blessing Adanu, was on Monday convicted by an Ikeja Special Offences Court sitting in Lagos State for defrauding a woman of N47.6m on the pretext of supplying her agricultural produce in the state.
Justice Mojisola Dada convicted Adanu on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing preferred against her by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission.
Dada held that the evidence before the court including statements made by the convict during interrogations proved all the essential ingredients of obtaining by false pretences and stealing. Read more
Two killed as Lagos rival cult groups clash (Punch)
Suspected cultists said to be avenging the killing of their colleague by a rival group on Thursday, March 16, hacked one Moses aka Loworo to death on Tapa Street in the Bariga area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that some members of a cult group had killed a rival cult member identified simply as Ayo in a community in Shomolu area of the state earlier that day.
A source, who did not want his name in print because of the sensitive nature of the matter, told our correspondent on Sunday that in a bid to avenge Ayo’s death, his colleagues trailed his suspected killers to Bariga where they launched a reprisal on Moses. Read more
NDLEA nabs Vietnam-bound businessman with cocaine at Lagos airport (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a businessman, Molokwu Nwachukwu, who frequents China, Dubai, Pakistan, and Vietnam, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos for concealing 36 parcels of cocaine in different parts of his check-in bags, hand luggage and two pairs of slippers, while heading to Southeast Asia.
Molokwu was said to have been arrested on Wednesday, March 22, at the screening point of the MMIA Terminal 2, while he was attempting to board a flight to Vietnam.
During a search, 36 parcels of whitish powdery substance that tested positive for Cocaine with a gross weight of 1.00 kg were recovered from the handles of his bags and soles of two pairs of slippers in his luggage. Read more
Alleged Fraud: Court orders forfeiture of properties, $50k linked to Maize Growers President (Independent)
Justice Tijjani Ringim of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday granted an order of interim forfeiture of seven properties, three vehicles and $50,000 cash from the National President of the Maize Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAGPAMAN), Prof. Uche Chigozie Edwin.
The judge made the order sequel to an application filed and argued by counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.
Rotimi told the judge that the EFCC traced the properties to Edwin and that it reasonably suspected that the defendant acquired them with the proceeds of unlawful activity. Read more
NDLEA intercepts cannabis concealed in dried onions at Lagos Airport (Independent)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted 2.7kg of cannabis concealed in dried onions which was to be exported to Dubai through a postal firm.
According to the anti graft agency, no fewer than 1, 205, 260 pills of opioids were seized in two interdiction operations in Kogi and Gombe states.
The spokesperson for the anti-narcotic agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday also revealed that officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos, disrupted the activities of a drug syndicate that operated between Nigeria, East Africa and Europe. Read more
Police arrest 27-old-man for allegedly raping 9-month-old baby in Lagos (Guardian)
The Police Command in Lagos State says it has arrested a 27-year-old man of Railway Ijora Badia, for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday.
Hundeyin said that the case was reported to the Police on Monday at about 10:00pm by a concerned member of the public. Read more
