4 rescued in Abuja building collapse (Tribune)
Four individuals have been rescued following the collapse of a section of a two-storey residential apartment in Abuja on Saturday morning.
The incident, where several people remain trapped under rubble, occurred less than 24 hours after a tragic school building collapse in Plateau State that claimed 22 lives and left 132 injured.
Additionally, this incident follows another building collapse at Unity House, Area 11, Garki, in Abuja, just eleven days ago. Read more
Jos school building collapse, disheartening – First Lady mourns (Vanguard)
Wife of Mr. President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has condoled with families of victims of Jos school collapsed building, describing it as “disheartening.”
This is as the Plateau State Government confirmed 22 deaths and 132 injured persons from the Jos collapsed school building.

Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Road: Students hail Abiodun for championing reconstruction of FG road (Sun)
Students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have hailed the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, on the efforts of his administration to fix deplorable roads belonging to the Federal Government in the state.
The students in a statement jointly signed by the NANS Ogun State Chairman and the National President of NAOSS, Adeyanju Francis and Kehinde Thomas, respectively, at the weekend, said that the governor’s persistent efforts in ensuring that the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway is rehabilitated, showed that he is feeling the agonies of commuters on the road.
The Associations noted that despite that the expressway belongs to the FG, the Ogun State government, under the leadership of Abiodun, has continued to carry out palliative works on the road to ameliorate the pains of motorists and residents along the expressway. Read more

President Bola Tinubu has stated that all the 44 award winners at the 2024 Nigerian Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) held last Saturday at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, were picked based on empirical evidence of performance and not politics.
The NEAPS 2024 is a collaboration involving a private firm, The Best Strategic PR (TBS), and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), to recognise excellent public service delivery.

Experts advocate prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (Punch)
Experts in the health sector have called for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Nigeria.
They include representatives from the Centre for Integrated Health Programs, the National AIDS and STI Control Program of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Nigeria.
A statement released to The PUNCH on Saturday said the group unveiled a Baby Shower Toolkit in Lagos.
The event, titled ‘Dissemination of the Toolkit for the implementation of Baby Showers in Congregational Settings for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV,’ was hosted by the CIHP. Read more
Bayelsa Gov Poll: Appeal Court dismisses LP’s petition against Diri (Channels)
The Court of Appeal has dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party and its governorship candidate Udengmobofa Eradiri, challenging the emergence of Governor Douye Diri of the People’s Democratic Party, as governor of Bayelsa State in the November 2023 election.
The three-man panel of the appellate court held that the tribunal was right in dismissing the LP’s petition for lacking in merit.
The court held that Eradiri and his party failed to prove allegations of non-qualification and certificate forgery against Governor Diri and his deputy, as contained in their petition. Read more
Lagos commercial drivers accuse task force of harassment, extortion (Punch)
Commercial drivers at the Toyota Bus Stop in the Ladipo Spare Parts Market have complained of alleged extortion and harassment by some Lagos State task force officials operating in the area.
Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, the aggrieved drivers lamented that the officers specifically targeted commercial car drivers during what they described as “illegal operations” in the area.
According to the drivers, task force officials carry a set of keys used to unlock commercial vehicles, especially those whose drivers refuse to hand over their keys, saying the officials then jump into the vehicles and drive them away. Read more

The apex court had on Thursday in an unanimous judgment upheld the suit brought by the federal government to strengthen the independence of local governments in the country.

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a man decided to whip out his todger and urinate down the aisle in front of horrified passengers.

Lithuanian Football Club, FK Dembava, has signed no fewer than 23 Nigerian footballers to compete in the Lithuania II Lyga.
Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Saturday that OPM brokered the signing of the footballers.
