The family of Daniel Oyedokun has been thrown into mourning after their four-year-old son drowned in a canal on his way back from church on Sunday at Awori Street, Dopemu, Agege in Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased was swept away by the flood that accompanied the heavy rain on that day.
The distraught father of Daniel, Olabode Oyedokun, in an interview with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, said the son followed their neighbour to church as he was unable to go with him to their own church. Read more

Officials of the Lagos State Taskforce recently dispersed a birthday party at Yaba for occupying a large percentage of the road, thereby inconveniencing other road users, and has threatened to henceforth arrest anyone caught in such manner.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the agency’s Director, Press and Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdbulraheem, and posted on its official X handle on Tuesday.

A 41-year-old man, Stephen Ihyom, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged reckless driving and causing death.
The defendant is standing trial before magistrate L. K. J. Layeni on a three-count charge bordering on dangerous driving on a restricted highway and causing death.

Billionaire Charlie Munger, the investing sage who made a fortune even before he became Warren Buffett’s right-hand man at Berkshire Hathaway, has died at age 99.
Munger died Tuesday, according to a press release from Berkshire Hathaway. The conglomerate said it was advised by members of Munger’s family that he peacefully died this morning at a California hospital. He would have turned 100 on New Year’s Day.

Adapted from a detective novel of the same title that was published in 2017 by Sabda Armandio, “24 Hours with Gaspar” follows the life of private detective Gaspar, who has only 24 hours to live. He discovers clues leading to the mysterious disappearance of Kirana, a childhood friend, and later to Wan Ali, who’s involved in a human trafficking syndicate. Gaspar, along with five other people, plans to rob a jewelry store in the last hours of his life.

Ukraine spy chief’s wife poisoned, says Kyiv (BBC)
The wife of Ukraine’s spy chief Lt Gen Kyrylo Budanov, Marianna Budanova, has been poisoned with heavy metals, a spokesman for the country’s military intelligence has told BBC Ukrainian.
Andriy Yusov said several other agency employees also had mild symptoms of poisoning. He did not specify how many.

All 41 workers rescued from collapsed Indian tunnel after 17 days (AlJazeera)
All 41 construction workers who were trapped in a collapsed mountain tunnel for 17 days in northern India have been brought to safety, hours after rescue crews drilled through the debris of rock, concrete and mud to reach them.
Following days of multiple rescue attempts that hit obstacles just metres from reaching the men, they were eventually pulled out on Tuesday on wheeled stretchers through a 90-centimetre (three-foot) wide steel pipe, in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.
