The Police on Tuesday, arraigned five men before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged breach of public peace and unlawful assembly.
Shakiru Olaleye, 28; Kadir Raif, 25; Taiwo Itehinola, 28; Aribire Babatunde, 30; and Badejo Oluwafare, 30; are facing a four-count charge of unlawful assembly and breach of public peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at about 08:00 p.m on June 30 at Taiwo St. Ojota, Lagos.
He said the defendants who all stayed within the Ogudu-Ojota axis, were arrested by a team of Anti-Crime Patrol attached to Area H Command Ogudu, Ojota.
”They conspired and conducted themselves in a manner capable of disturbing public peace within the area when they gathered in a premier lotto game shop also known as Baba Ijebu.
“They harboured one Wasiu aka Aloba – a wanted person by the police who is involved in the sales of Illicit drugs but who is now at large.
”The second defendant, Kadir Raif, was arrested sometime last year by men of the RRS over a robbery case and was charged to court and released sometime in March 2022.
“The other defendants were also arrested at the scene of the raid with substances suspected to be illicit drugs on them”, Perezi said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 45(2),168(h)(2), and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Section 412 attracts two years imprisonment for conspiracy while Section 168(2) attracts a fine of N15,000 for any disorderly person.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 28 for mention. (NAN)
