Nigeria’s confirmed cases of coronavirus reached 28,711 Sunday night following 544 fresh infections, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said in an update.
Lagos recorded 199 cases, followed by Ebonyi with 65, Oyo-47 and Ondo-46.
The rest are: Ogun-31, Edo-30, FCT-28, Katsina-25, Plateau-15, Bayelsa-11, Kaduna-10, Adamawa-10, Akwa Ibom-8, Gombe-7, Kano-4, Taraba-3, Rivers-2, Abia-2 and Ekiti-1
The total confirmed cases in Nigeria now stands at 28,711 of which 11,665 have been discharged.
The infection has however claimed 645 lives.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said it was discontinuing its trials of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and combination HIV drug lopinavir/ritonavir in hospitalised patients with COVID-19 after the medications failed to reduce mortality.
Over 212,000 new coronavirus cases were reported globally by WHO – the highest single-day increase since the start of the pandemic.
Worldwide cases have reached 11.23 million while 6.04 million patients have recovered, according to the latest Johns Hopkins University tally. The number of deaths worldwide have totalled more than 530,000.
