6 dead, 4 rescued in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway auto crash (Guardian)

Six people were recovered dead, four were rescued alive while one was left in critical condition in an accident that occurred in front of NIPCO GAS Station, opposite Prayer City, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry headquarters, outbound Lagos, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident occurred when a truck collided with a fuel tanker and a 14-seater commercial bus.

The Guardian gathered that movement of traffic has been held to a standstill following the incident. Read more

Gridlock on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway as fallen truck causes multiple accidents (Vanguard)

Traffic came to a standstill on Saturday on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway following a major accident involving a container-laden truck and seven other vehicles near the Cele Bus Stop area.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account. Emergency responders are currently at the scene, working to manage the situation and provide medical assistance to those affected.

The statement read: โ€œA multiple accident has occurred at Cele on the Apapa-Oshodi Express, involving a container-laden truck that fell on its side and seven (7) other vehicles. Emergency responders are on the ground and en route, and casualties are being taken care of while our men are on the ground managing the traffic emanating from this.โ€ Read more

Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1 has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom in Oyo State on Saturday.

Passengers escape death as BRT bus burst into flames in Lagos (Channels)

The driver and conductor of a BRT bus have fled for their lives, abandoning passengers to their fate, as a BRT bus caught fire at Maryland, Lagos State, on Saturday morning.

Our correspondent, who was at the scene of the incident, said that the vehicle departed from Ikorodu en route to CMS when the sad incident occurred.

As of the time this report was filed, emergency responders, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), fire services, and local security personnel, arrived at the scene to contain the blaze. Read more

Grammy-nominated Malian musician Amadou Bagayoko, who won global fame by moulding traditional West African sounds with Western rock and pop influences as one half of the blind duo Amadou and Mariam, has died aged 70.

The Malian Ministry of Culture โ€œlearned with concern of the passing of artist Amadou Bagayoko this Friday,โ€ it said in a statement read on state television on Saturday.

โ€œAmadou was a blind man who made his mark on the Malian and international scene.โ€

Bagayoko died in the city of Bamako, his birthplace. His stepson Youssouf Fadiga told AFP news agency the musician โ€œhad been ill for a whileโ€ but did not specify what the ailment was. He is survived by Mariam, who was also his wife, and son, Sam, also a musician. Read more
