Six persons were on Monday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged unlawful gathering.
The six defendants, whose addresses were not provided, included: Mohammed Ibrahim, 22; Shaibu Yusuf, 23; Illiasu Lawal, 19; Illiasu Yusuf, 25; Suleiman Anaruwa, 25 and Akeem Amidu, 20.
They were charged with unlawful gathering and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, to which they, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 10 at noon, at Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan.
Adedosu said that the defendants unlawfully assembled themselves at the afore-mentioned area and harassed one Temitope Orowumi by telling him that he wanted to use his farm to extort money from them.
She said that the offences contravened Sections 69 and 70 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. Olagbenro, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Olagbenro adjourned the case till July 30 for hearing. (NAN)
