The number of people infected by the novel coronavirus in Nigeria has increased to 290 the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.
Making the announcement via its verified Twitter handle Monday night, NCDC noted that the total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 46,867.
Of that number, 33,346 have been discharged from the isolation centres across the country having tested negative, while 950 deaths have sadly been recorded.
The current figures show Lagos State with 82 new infections, as is the case with Plateau State. They are the only two states out of the 19 and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) listed with such a high figure.
As of August 10, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the African continent stood at 23,278. There are 1,048,600 confirmed infections and 734,235 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The confirmed number of coronavirus cases in the world has passed 20 million. That’s according to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University, which recorded 20,001,019 as the global total of confirmed coronavirus cases and that 733,897 people have died as of August 10.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
