Carwash operator bags life jail for raping, impregnating neighbour’s granddaughter (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi, of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday sentenced a 41-year-old car wash operator Ezekiel Udoh to life imprisonment for defiling and impregnating his neighbour’s 12-year-old granddaughter.
The judge in his judgment held that the prosecution discharged its burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt that Udoh committed the offence.
Oshodi said that the gravity of the offence could not be overstated as the convict took advantage of the survivor by violating not only her innocence but also the trust placed in him as an adult in the community. Read more
Judge summons mother for son’s cybercrime case (Punch)
Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the mother of a 19-year-old painter, Chinonso Udeh, to appear in court on November 1, 2024.
Udeh, who was brought before Justice Faji, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a count of cybercrime. He pleaded guilty.
Following his plea, the EFCC prosecutor, Mr Suleiman Suleiman, reviewed the facts of the case through a witness, Mr Abdulraman Mohammed, an operative.
Lagos to prosecute residents hosting events on public roads (Punch)
The Lagos State Task Force has issued a note of warning to residents of the state who are in the habit of hosting events on public roads thereby causing inconvenience to road users.
This is as the agency said it would prosecute violators who may be disregarding established state laws that ban road parties.
The warning is coming barely 10 days after five people were arrested along the Raymond Njoku Road in the Ikoyi area of the state for blocking the road to host a birthday party. Read more
5 women jailed two years for cannabis importation (Punch)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday convicted and sentenced five women to two years in prison each for illegally importing 6.96 kilograms of “Ghana loud,” a potent strain of cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana.
The convicted women are Basirat Olarigbibe (also known as Basirat Feyisara Olaribigbe), Fatima Garuba (aka Fatima Ladidi Abogun), Amudalat Adekunle (aka Amudalat Ajetunmobi), Oloye Arafat Awele (aka Akanni Balikis Oluwatoyin), and Ademola Bola (also known as Tolulope Oluwaseun Osibeluwo or Tolulope Ademola).
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke convicted and sentenced them after they all pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy and unlawful importation, charges brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency against them. Read more
Lagos arrests 20 miscreants as hoodlums attack LAWMA operatives (Punch)
No fewer than 20 suspected miscreants were arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, otherwise known as KAI, at various locations across the state.
This is just as operatives of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, who were monitoring compliance to prevent illegal dumping on road medians, were reportedly attacked by miscreants along the Mile 2-Badagry area of the state.

Lagos cleric remanded over alleged rape (Punch)
The pastor of a Pentecostal church in Onpanu, Lagos, Abraham Olaluwoye, has been remanded in jail for allegedly raping a 27-year-old lady (name withheld).
The survivor, who spoke with City Round, said the incident happened on September 16 when she was called by the cleric to come to the church so he could help her get a job.
She said, “When I told my parents and brother, they said I shouldn’t go. That Monday afternoon, when I was going to fetch water I saw pastor Abraham and I greeted him and went my way, but later I saw his missed calls on my phone.
Lagos bizman granted N10m bail for alleged N7m fraud (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday, granted N10m bail to a businessman, Kenneth Ugwu, over alleged N7m fraud.
Justice Mohammed Kala, in his ruling on the bail application, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10m, with two sureties in like sum.
Ugwu is standing trial on two counts of alleged stealing and obtaining by false pretences.
Canadian lady jailed 11 years for importing 35.20kg cannabis (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a 41-year-old Canadian lady, Adrienne Munju, to 11 years imprisonment for importing 35.20 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud (Cannabis Sativa) into Nigeria.
Justice Dehinde Dipeolu who handed down the verdict also gave her an option of a N100m fine on the two counts preferred against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The judge convicted and sentenced Munju following her plea of guilt on the two counts. Read more
Lagos task force impounds 115 motorcycles (Punch)
The Lagos State Task Force has disclosed that it impounded no fewer than 115 motorcycles in its continued efforts to enforce the ban of commercial motorcycles in some parts of the state.
The agency’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Raheem Gbadeyan, disclosed this in a statement sent to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.
According to Gbadeyan, the motorcycles were seized during a raid on LASU First Gate, Ipaja Gate, Governor’s Road, Igando and Dopemu areas of the state. Read more
Property developer to face attempted murder, N152m fraud charges (Punch)
The Nigeria Police has filed five counts of alleged threat to murder, obtaining by false pretence, stealing and conspiracy before a Federal High Court in Lagos, against a Lagos property developer, Olukayode Olusanya and his company Oak Homes Limited.
In the charge dated April 15, 2024, with suit number FHC/L/261C/2024, the police alleged that Olusanya, the Chief Executive Officer of Oak Homes Multinational Limited, conspired with the head of sales and marketing manager of Oak Homes, Lynda Umeh, who is now at large, to commit the offences.
The police said Okunsanya and Umeh connived together and offered the sale of two units of three-bedroom flats on the second floor at Oak Residence located at 14A Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island, to one Mr. Anthony Ehiedu Ugbebor, a Nigerian-based United States of America engineer, under the false pretence that it was for sale. 3 suspects arrested with human tongues in Lagos taxi (Punch)
Police officers in Lagos State have arrested three suspects in connection with the possession of human parts, specifically suspected tongues.
The operatives from the Rapid Response Squad intercepted the suspects who are Isah Amohullahi 30 and Abubakar Isah 32, respectively were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Otedola Bridge on October 15, 2024.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Tuesday, said the suspects were found with the body parts while in a taxi. Read more
