Abductors kill man in botched kidnap attempt (Nation)
A tragic incident was recorded in Atta, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State during the week when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot dead a young man attempting to escape.
The abductors had trailed the victim, said to be in his thirties to a petrol station at Umuololo Village on Wednesday and attempted to force him into their car.
In a desperate bid to flee, the man freed himself from the abductors’ grip and ran for his life. Read more

Despite crackdown, drug abuse, trafficking on the rise (Leadership)
Despite the renewed offensive against substance abuse and drug trafficking, the illicit trade has escalated in Nigeria.
In the first quarter of 2025, 4,803 suspects were arrested compared to 4,329 nabbed during the same period last year by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

FG to sanction airlines bringing passengers without valid visas (Punch)
Airlines transporting passengers without valid entry visas, landing and exit cards into Nigeria will be penalised, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has warned.
Mr Tunji-Ojo gave the warning at a stakeholder sensitisation programme on the implementation of the e-Visa, landing and exit cards initiative, on Friday in Lagos.
According to the minister, no foreigner shall be allowed entry into Nigeria without a valid visa. Read more
Recovered Loot: Supreme Court strikes out suits by 36 states against FG (Channels)
The Supreme Court has struck out a suit by the 36 states’ governments and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) challenging the Federal Government’s application of recovered looted funds.
Delivering judgment, a seven-member panel unanimously held that the suit was wrongly instituted before the apex court.
In the lead judgment, prepared by Justice Chidiebere Uwa, but read by Justice Mohammed Idris, the apex court held that the plaintiffs wrongly invoked its jurisdiction. Read more
Nigeria to launch 2 new satellites to orbit (Sun)
The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has said arrangements have been concluded to launch two new satellites to the orbit as a move to replace the one launched in 2011.
The agency’s Director General, Dr Matthew Adepoju, disclosed this in Uyo, while interacting with journalists on the sidelines of the 2025 NASRDA top management retreat in Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, the initiative would be in collaboration with Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) in USA. Read more
Ahead of NEC, Wike set to take over PDP secretariat (DailyTrust)
Barring any last minute intervention, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Nyesom Wike has directed that the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja will be sealed with staff and visitors barred from the property as from Monday.
The Minister said the PDP secretariat will be sealed along with 4,793 other properties revoked by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in March this year.
The planned revocation is coming ahead of the much awaited National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the PDP slated for Tuesday, May 27. Read more
2 injured as training aircraft crash-lands in Ilorin (Vanguard)
Two people sustained serious injuries when a training aircraft crash-landed at the Ilorin International Airport on Thursday.
Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, Mrs Bimbo Oladeji, who disclosed this in a statement, said the incident occurred at 17:28 local time on May 23, 2025, during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05 at Ilorin International Airport. Oladeji said the aircraft veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass verge, leaving the two occupants on board injured. Read more
Robbery gang guilty of Kim Kardashian heist in Paris (BBC) Eight people have been found guilty after US reality TV star Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint of millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery in Paris nearly a decade ago.
The four who took part in the heist were given sentences of up to eight years, mostly suspended, and they will not return to prison because of time served. Two people were acquitted.

Delaware legalises physician-assisted suicide (CNA)
Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer this week signed a bill legalizing physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill adults with a prognosis of six months or less to live.
The law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2026, allows patients to self-administer lethal medication, making Delaware the 11th state to legalize euthanasia. California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, along with the District of Columbia, also permit the practice.
Meyer said on Tuesday the law is “about compassion, dignity, and respect. It gives people facing unimaginable suffering the ability to choose peace and comfort, surrounded by those they love. After years of debate, I am proud to sign H.B. 140 into law.” Read more
