A popular pastor, Stanley Ogbonna, has allegedly driven his estranged wife, Chioma, and six children out of their house in Abuja.
Ogbonna, a General Overseer of the God’s Spring Assembly, also known as Glass Church, Kubwa, Abuja, was said to be in an unsettling relationship with his wife, which led to their divorce.
He was accused of telling the court he had sold his properties to prevent the embattled wife from having a share of his wealth. Read more
Praying man drowns at Lagos beach (DailyTrust)
The Police said on Wednesday that divers were battling to recover the body of a 30-year-old man who allegedly drowned at Elegushi Beach, Lagos, where he had gone for prayers.
The Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said a report to the police indicated that the man, simply identified as Samuel, had gone to pray at the beach with his friends. Read more

Nigerian students at Teesside University in the United Kingdom have been instructed to leave the school and return to Nigeria due to unpaid tuition fees.
The devaluation of the naira has made it difficult for these students to meet their financial obligations, resulting in a breach of visa sponsorship requirements.

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved the appointment of Assistant Corps Marshal, Mohammed Shehu as the Corps Marshal/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen disclosed ethics in a statement in Abuja.
According to the statement, Shehu’s appointment is for an initial period of four years with effect from 20th May 2024 in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Act establishing the Commission. Read more

An unidentified septuagenarian has slumped and died inside an Ondo State High Court session in Oka, Ondo.
The incident occurred before the court proceedings had begun.
Witnesses reported that the deceased was present to testify as a witness in a case involving his friend.
A court staff, speaking anonymously, said that the septuagenarian collapsed suddenly without any apparent interaction or collision with anyone or anything. Read more

Martin Otse, a controversial social media critic known by his online alias VeryDarkMan, has been remanded in police custody until his next court hearing scheduled for next Wednesday.
The Federal High Court in Abuja arraigned Otse on Wednesday, where he faced five counts of cyberstalking related to allegations against the Nigeria Police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.
Otse pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, requested bail for his client, but the police prosecuting team requested additional time to respond to the application. Consequently, Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon adjourned the bail hearing to May 29. Read more

Russia has returned six children displaced by the war in Ukraine in a deal brokered by Qatar, according to Russian state media.
TASS news agency published a video on Wednesday showing Qatar’s ambassador shaking hands with the children – all male and aged between six and 17, including two brothers – in Qatar’s embassy in Moscow.

A former University of Arizona graduate student was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder for fatally shooting a hydrology professor on campus, months after he was expelled.
A Pima County Superior Court jury deliberated for less than three hours before reaching a verdict against Murad Dervish, 48, in the death of Thomas Meixner, who was shot 11 times near his office in October 2022.

Singapore’s government said it had begun an investigation after a passenger died and dozens of people were injured after a Singapore Airlines flight was hit by extreme turbulence.
The airline’s flight SQ321 was flying from London’s Heathrow airport to Singapore, with 211 passengers and 18 crew members aboard when it hit the turbulence Tuesday over the Andaman Sea.

Stenhouse received a $75,000 fine for punching Busch after the race, which occurred Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, N.C.
