The Action Democratic Congress (ADC), on Tuesday, berated the Federal Government over the state of affairs in the country.
The national chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, while speaking at the 76th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, of the party, in Abuja, said there have been many policy flops since President Bola Tinubu assumed office.
Nwosu, while speaking on the theme “crusade for national rebirth, democracy. Let’s leverage on the depth of handshake to lift Nigeria,” expressed dismay that Nigerians started experiencing hardship from the first day of Tinubu’s administration. Read more
Court remands mother, son in prison for alleged N122m theft (Leadership)
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered a mother, Lola Disu and her son, Ahmed Disu to be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing office property valued at over N122 million belonging to Uccas Resources Ltd.
The court, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro sent the duo behind the bars after their arraignment before the judge by the Police on a 14-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The Police had alleged that the defendants and others at-large on June 25, 2021 at No 16 Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Magboro Bus Stop, Ikeja Lagos, conspired amongst themselves to steal the property belonging to Uccas Resources Limited represented by its Managing Director, Ukata Christian. Read more

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said the last one year of the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is most challenging in Nigeria’s history since the Civil War.
PDP in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, decried the current rising insecurity, excruciating poverty, economic hardship and general despondency in the country, stating that they necessitated the exodus of many of Nigerians especially the youths from the country.

Senate passes bill to restore old national anthem (DailyTrust)
The Senate has passed the National Anthem Bill, 2024, which seeks to restore the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” adopted by Nigeria at independence in 1960.
This is coming less than a week after the House of Representatives’ passed the same bill last Thursday.
The old anthem was replaced in 1978 with the current one, “Arise O Compatriots.” Read more

Deferring to presidential intervention, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South in the Senate and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, has withdrawn the suit filed against the party, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged irregularities in the party’s governorship primary conducted in the State last month.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Ibrahim attributed the withdrawal of the suit to a series of interventions made by President Bola Tinubu on phone and physical meetings held with him at the Presidential Villa. Read more

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday called for the repeal of the Fire and Rescue Service Act of 1963.
According to him, the law is obsolete and does not reflect the current realities of the service globally.

Israel continues Rafah strikes despite condemnation (AfricaNews)
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released footage of injured people being treated at Rafah’s International Medical Corps (IMC) field hospital on Monday, following an Israeli airstrike on a makeshift camp of internally displaced people the previous day.
OCHA said that doctors at the IMC field hospital in Rafah were among the first responders, after the Israeli strike on Sunday set fire to the camp.
At least 45 people were killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and the Palestinian Red Crescent rescue service. The ministry said the dead included at least 12 women, eight children and three older adults, with another three bodies burned beyond recognition. Read more

Tens of millions of people living in coastal areas of the Caribbean and Latin America face “life-threatening” weather events made worse by the climate crisis, the United Nations said in a new report.
The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) report on Tuesday found that 41 million people – about 6 percent of the population across the region – are exposed to threatening storms and flooding.
Nearly 1,450 hospitals vital to maternal health and family planning across the region also are located in low-elevation coastal areas that are more prone to natural hazards, the UNFPA said. Read more

A 26-year-old man accused in a weekend stabbing spree that injured six people, including four girls, in Massachusetts was ordered to undergo a court-ordered evaluation Tuesday.
Jared Ravizza, 26, is accused of attacking four girls at a movie theater in Braintree before stabbing two employees of a McDonald’s at a rest stop in Plymouth. He was arrested Saturday after a car chase that ended when he crashed his 2018 black Porsche Macan.
A judge on Tuesday granted a request from Ravizza’s court-appointed attorney for a competency evaluation at his arraignment in Plymouth. He did not enter a plea, and his attorney declined a request for comment. Read more

Cornet announced in April that the clay-court Grand Slam event would be the final tournament of her career. The 34-year-old was a wild-card entrant at the French Open. Her run at Roland Garros lasted just 83 minutes.

Andretti should buy an existing team rather than try to set up their own to enter Formula 1, the president of the sport’s governing body has said.
