Again, Dangote Refinery reduces petrol price by 3.5% to N835 per litre (Vanguard)

In a significant development, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a further reduction in the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

The new price is set at N835 per litre, down from N865 per litre, marking a 3.5 per cent decrease.

This price adjustment follows the recent decline in global crude oil prices, which have dropped to $64 per barrel from over $70 per barrel in recent weeks.

The refinery had previously reduced its gantry price from N880 to N865 per litre; however, oil marketers did not pass on the savings to consumers. Read more 

Court voids Obasa’s removal as Speaker (Sun)

The Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has nullified the removal of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a judgement delivered on Wednesday, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro held that the January 13 action was unconstitutional, null and void.

The court also nullified all resolutions and decisions of the House in the January 13, 2025 proceedings during which Obasa was ousted and awarded N500,000 to Obasa as damages. Read more

Already, the collapse has passed as the biggest Ponzi scam so far recorded in the country.  Added to an estimated N300 billion lost previously, Nigerians may have had hard-earned N1.7 trillion swept away by Ponzi schemes in nine years – since 2016. This does not include the estimated losses to cryptocurrency trading and the recent IAS crash.

Reps summon Rivers’ sole administrator (DailyTrust)

The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State oversight, has invited the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) to appear before it on Thursday for an interactive session.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Spokesman of the House, Akin Rotimi (Jnr), on Wednesday.

Daily Trust reports that the 21-member committee chaired by the House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, was inaugurated by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday. Read more 

JAMB dissociates self from false, misleading messages on UTME (ThisDay)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dissociated itself from the ongoing circulation of false, misleading and criminal messages targeting candidates that registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said the messages were being disseminated by suspected fraudsters with the intent to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

Benjamin noted that the perpetrators had exploited the numerical variant of UTME, 8863, and merged it with the Board’s sort code, ‘55019’, to create a deceptive sort code that mimics JAMB’s official messaging system. Read more

Women on Wednesday thronged major streets in Port Harcourt to protest against the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State.

Under the aegis of the Rivers Women Unite Prayer Group, the protesters kicked against the suspension of Siminalayi Fubara as governor.

‘Snow White’ banned in Lebanon due to Gal Gadot being on country’s ‘Israel boycott list’ (Variety)

Disney’s live-action Snow White has been banned from playing in movie theaters in Lebanon due to the presence in the film of Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who plays the role of the the Evil Queen.

The ban was ordered by Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar who, according to local media, was prompted to take action by the country’s film and media watchdog amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have caused civilian deaths.

However, a representative for Beirut-based Middle East distributor Italia Films, which handles Disney titles in the region, told Variety that Gadot has long been on Lebanon’s “Israel boycott list” and that no movie in which she stars has ever been released in the country. Representatives for Gadot did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment. Read more 

Sean Kingston released from jail after posting $100k bond (Hiphophero)

Sean Kingston has been released from police custody after posting a $100,000 bond. The ‘Beautiful Girls’ singer was arrested earlier this week after failing to meet the financial terms of his bond and was held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami.

Kingston and his mother were found guilty of $1 million in wire fraud in March. They allegedly participated in a “scheme to defraud victim sellers of high-end specialty vehicles, jewellery, and other goods purchased by the defendants through the use of fraudulent documents.”

He was placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring and ordered to post a surety bond for a home valued at $500,000 and $200,000 in cash. Kingston failed to meet all of the requirements, missing $100,000. His defence told US District Judge David S. Leibowitz that they couldn’t raise the cash after asking family members, resulting in his jailing. Read more

UK Supreme Court says definition of woman is biological (Newsweek)

The UK Supreme Court has ruled that the definition of a woman under the country’s equality law refers to biological sex.

The landmark ruling means that a transgender person with a certificate that recognizes them as female should not be considered a woman for equality purposes.

Justice Patrick Hodge said five judges at the court had ruled unanimously that “the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman.” Read more

UFC fighter Marvin Vettori’s brother Patrick dies in house fire (People)

UFC fighter Marvin Vettori is mourning the loss of his younger brother.

According to multiple reports, including Italian news station TGCOM24 and USA Today, Patrick Vettori died in an apartment fire in Mezzocorona, Italy. He was 30 years old.Neighbors saw smoke rising from the apartment and firefighters responded to the scene quickly, but Patrick had already died due to smoke inhalation, the outlets said. He reportedly lived alone in the apartment. Read more
