Jimi Agbaje has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State for the 2019 elections. Agbaje, a pharmacist, polled 1,100 votes to defeat his rival, Adedeji Doherty, who had 742 votes in the party’s primary held in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, which lasted about 30 hours. Read more

UNIPORT bracing up for best ever WAUG games (Guardian)
The 14th edition of the West African University Games (WAUG), will be the biggest and most competitive in history of the games, a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof Ken Anugweje, has said. The Games will hold at the university of Port Harcourt from October 31 to November 12, with new modalities. Unlike previous editions, the UNIPORT 2018 WAUG will see diploma students or students in affiliated centres of universities not being eligible to compete. Read more

Not ready to take chances, Nigeria’s rising star, Olaide Fijabi, says he might storm Dakar, Senegal, with some of his local delicacies such as amala and ewedu for the defence of his Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Super Lightweight title. Fijabi had knocked out a Tanzanian boxer, Shadrack Ignas Kobero, to claim the light welterweight title in December last year. Drunken soldier assaults Abuja trader, says it’s a mistake (Punch)
A soldier attached to Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, Anayo Aloysius, has admitted to have assaulted a trader at the Nyanya Market in the Federal Capital Territory. He, however, said he mistakenly punched the trader, Helen Akula, claiming that he had wanted to hit a friend. But Akula refuted Aloysius’ defence, insisting that he descended on her because she asked him to help her pick an empty bottle under a chair he sat on at a bar in the market. Read more
Suspected ritual killers nabbed with 11 human skulls (Punch)
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bolaji Fafowora, has said five suspected ritual killers have been arrested in Ilorin, the state capital, for allegedly being in possession of 11 human skulls and other parts of the body. The CP, who paraded the suspects on Friday in Ilorin, identified them as Azeez Yakub, Salima Azeez, Isah Wasiu, Abubakar Isiaka and Soliu Yakub. Read more
Mechanic leads gang to church premises, steals bus (Punch)
A mechanic in Ilesha, Osun State, Saheed Olaniyan, is cooling his feet in police custody after he was arrested for stealing a bus. The vehicle, a Toyota Hiace Bus, reportedly belongs to the St. Peter‘s Anglican Church. Olaniyan repairs the bus for the church. Robbers steal Edo cop’s service pistol, land in police net (Punch)
The Edo State Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly robbing a policeman and dispossessing him of his service pistol in the Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
