AGF Malami okays ex-Minister Oduah’s trial over alleged N7.9b fraud

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN) has issued a directive for the arraignment of a former Aviation Minister, now senator representing Anambra North, Stella Oduah, over her involvement in alleged N7.9 billion money laundering.

Malami’s directive is contained in a letter he sent to the Federal High Court in Abuja where the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed a charge against Oduah and others.

Other defendants named in the charge are: Gloria Odita, Nwosu Emmanuel Nnamdi, Chukwuma Irene Chinyere, Global Offshore and Marine Limited, Tip Top Global Resources Limited, Crystal Television Limited, and Sobora International Limited.

Although the charge was filed last year, the arraignment of the defendants had been stalled following a petition by lawyer to Crystal Television, Ogwu Onoja (SAN), to Malami and the AGF’s request to be allowed to study the case file and offer his opinion.

At the mention of the case yesterday, prosecuting lawyer Offem Uket informed the court about the availability of Malami’s written opinion.

He said the minister’s letter showed that Oduah and others be arraigned based on the already filed charge.

Following the development, Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned till February 13, 2023 for the defendants’ arraignment.
