Air Peace has distanced itself from the arrest of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero was arrested by men of the Department of State Service on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his way to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the airline, Omotade Makinwa, Air Peace said it was reacting to media reports insinuating that the secret police picked the NLC president over a petition submitted by the airline. Read more
Bandits kidnap 2 health workers in Kaduna hospital (Channels)
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped two healthcare workers during an attack on a primary health centre in Kuyallo Ward located in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The bandits were said to have stormed the village on Monday during which they attacked the primary health centre and took away the two community extension workers.
A community leader told Channels Television that the bandits had planned to attack a nearby government primary school, and when they could not find any pupil in the school, they attacked the healthcare facility and kidnapped the two workers. Read more
FG charges 10 to court over arms smuggling (Tribune)
The federal government has filed charges against 10 individuals for allegedly importing prohibited firearms and ammunition into the country.
The charges relate to the recent seizure of 844 firearms and 112,500 rounds of cartridges at the Onne port in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
According to the four-count charge filed on September 4, the defendants allegedly concealed the firearms and ammunition in plumbing materials in a container with the number MAEU-9165396. Read more

Pakistani police arrested Monday several top leaders from former imprisoned Prime Minister Imran Khan’s opposition party, a day after some people clashed with the police a mile from a protest calling for his release.
Among the detainees, accused of inciting violence, was the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Gohar Khan, who is not related to the former premier. Videos circulating online showed police taking the party head out of his vehicle before whisking him away to a police station. The PTI said in a statement other top party officials were arrested in multiple ongoing raids but didn’t disclose how many were detained.

Boeing reaches pay deal with union and averts strike (National)
Boeing said on Sunday it had reached a tentative agreement with a union representing more than 32,000 workers in the US Pacific Northwest, in a deal that could help avert a possible crippling strike as early as September 13.
The proposed four-year agreement, which includes a general wage increase of 25 per cent and a commitment to build the next commercial aircraft in the Seattle area, is an early win for new Boeing chief executive Kelly Ortberg, who took over last month.
The deal also includes 12 weeks of paid parental leave, improved job security, enhanced retirement benefits and other benefits. It would need to be approved on Thursday by Boeing factory workers near Seattle and Portland represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). Read more

A police officer “redirected” Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill to the ground because he was uncooperative during a traffic stop outside of Hard Rock Stadium, the South Florida Police Benevolent Association said Monday.
“While we are confident in the actions that led to the stop of Mr. Hill, as with any investigation, we will wait for all of the facts to come out, along with any explanation Mr. Hill may have for his actions that initiated this unfortunate incident,” said Steadman Stahl, the president of the police union.
Stahl said Hill was issued two traffic citations as a result of the stop, which occurred on a road adjacent to the Dolphins’ home field in Miami Gardens, Fla. Several social media users posted footage of the incident just hours before the Dolphins kicked off their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium. Read more
