“Aiye” confraternity head kills rival ‘Eye’ leader in Lagos (Punch)
In what appeared a quest for supremacy, the leader of ‘Aiye’ Confraternity in the Bariga area of Lagos State, Segun Ezekiel, has killed Taye Gbalagbala, leader of rival cult group ‘Eye’ Confraternity in the area.
It was gathered that the incident happened on March 28, 2021.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Saturday, said 24-year-old Ezekiel confessed that he murdered 30-year-old Gbalagbala.
Adejobi said Ezekiel has been arrested and the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and arrest of other fleeing culprits. Read more

A 29-year-old armed robbery suspect, Taiwo Ojomo, who was arrested alongside three others by operatives of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by DCP Abba Kyari, has narrated how he was introduced into crime by his twin brother, Kehinde Ojomo.
The siblings whose gang operate within and outside Lagos confessed to being the children of a retired soldier.
In his confession to the police, Taiwo said he now heads his own gang, having grown through the ranks in his twin brother’s gang.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mourned the passage of the National Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile,
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late human rights and pro-democracy activist, as a great nationalist, passionate leader and champion of a true Nigeria that would work for every citizen.

Pan-Northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has commiserated with its Yoruba counterpart, Afenifere, over the sudden death of its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin.
The ACF in a condolence message by its National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, noted that while alive, the Afenifere’s spokesman held his views tenaciously, adding that its disagreements with him were not personal but based on principle.

There was confusion as a High Court Bailiff, (nameswitheld) allegedly sealed off Maxin Lotus Hotel in Effurun, Delta State, in error after chasing out over 31 guests that were in the hotel.
The Vanguard gathered that the court order was meant for a piece of land lying and situated along Effurun/Sapele Road, beside CFAO opposite Urhobo College, Effurun and not Maxin Lotus Hotel.

NJC raises alarm on online recruitment scam (Tribune)
The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Saturday alerted the public of an online advertisement purporting an ongoing massive recruitment exercise at the Council for the year 2021, describing it as a scam.
The scam advertisement was said to have been published on some websites, different from the official website of the National Judicial Council.
In a statement yesterday, the Director of Information of the NJC, Mr. Soji Oye warned members of the public to ignore the fraud scheme.

Relatives counter police claim bandits killed 2 Fulani leaders in Nasarawa (DailyTrust)
A relative to two Fulani group leaders killed on Friday night has countered police claims on the identity of the men and the suspected killers.
Police named the two men killed as Mohammed Hussain, chairman of Miyetti Allah In Nasarawa and Mohammed Umar, chairman of Miyetti Allah in Toto local government area.
But Aminu Kuba, a cousin to the slain men countered the police claim online, saying Umar instead was the Nasarawa State Chapter Chairman of Fulbe Development and Cultural Organization (FUDECO).

NMA slams Ngige for saying US, UK don’t pay resident doctors (Punch)
The Nigerian Medical Association has lambasted the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, for saying developed nations like the United States and the United Kingdom don’t pay resident doctors.
Ngige, who is also a medical doctor, had berated the National Association of Resident Doctors for embarking on a nationwide strike, claiming that developed countries don’t pay resident doctors.
He had also stated on Channels Television that resident doctors in foreign countries actually pay the hospitals where they work while in Nigeria the reverse is the case. Read more

DMX believed to be in grave condition after overdose, heart attack (PageSix)
Hip Hop icon DMX’s life is hanging in the balance after the rapper suffered a drug overdosed Friday night.
According to TMZ, sources close to the “What’s My Name” artist claim the OD occurred at 11 pm. Sources added that the overdose then triggered a heart attack.
DMX is currently in the critical care unit of a White Plains hospital where he reportedly is exhibiting “some brain activity.” Another source told TMZ that the artist is currently in a “vegetative state” and doctors have cautioned he may not make it.

COVID-19: Italy returns to strict lockdown for Easter (BBC)
Italy has entered a strict three-day lockdown to try to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases over Easter.
All regions are now in the “red zone” – the highest tier of restrictions – as the country battles a third wave, with about 20,000 new cases a day.
Non-essential movement is banned, but people are allowed to share an Easter meal at home with two other adults.

Suez Canal traffic jam caused by stuck ship Ever Given ‘cleared’ (BBC)
The last ships stranded by the giant container vessel that was stuck in the Suez Canal have now passed through the waterway, the canal authorities say.
More than 400 vessels were left waiting at either end of the canal when the 400m-long Ever Given became wedged across it on 23 March.
But Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority says the shipping traffic jam is now over.
Officials have opened an investigation into the incident and expect to made their findings public early next week. Read more

Andrew Yang is back in the saddle Saturday, one day after being sidelined with a kidney stone which required him to be hospitalized.
The New York City mayoral frontrunner has a busy day of events planned, according to a schedule released by his campaign.
Among the stops include the Queens County Farm Museum for an Easter egg hunt and a Park Slope walking tour with Democratic District Leader Doug Schneider. The campaign also announced plans for Yang to spend Easter Sunday worshipping with Rev. A.R. Bernard at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
It’s been a tough few months medically for Yang, who also tested positive for coronavirus in February. He has since made a full recovery. Read more
