Alexander Zverev faces Australian Open fitness race after hamstring injury (Metro)

Alexander Zverev’s Australian Open hopes were handed a major blow on Monday as he suffered a hamstring injury.

The German was forced to withdraw from the World Tennis Challenge – an exhibition event in Adelaide – where he was due to face off against fellow Next Gen ace Borna Coric.

However, it was confirmed that the 22-year-old world No. 4 would not be able to compete, with Spain’s Fernando Verdasco stepping in to replace him.
