Developers of Eko Atlantic City, South Energyx Nigeria, has said that the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, does not own a skyscraper in the Eko Atlantic City. South Energyx Nigeria in a statement released on Monday said the claims made in an advertorial, titled, ‘Ambode’s Many Sins against Lagosians (Part 1)’ were false. Xenophobia: First batch of 320 Nigerians to return Wednesday (Nation)
The Consul General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, has said that the first batch of the Nigerian returnees from South Africa would depart South Africa for Lagos on Wednesday. Kwara State Tuesday disowned a list of the state’s Commissioner nominees circulating online. Man throws four months old son into Niger River (Nation)
A 20-year-old man, Mustapha Aliyu has been arrested for throwing his four months old son into river Uti in Borgu local government area of Niger state. The Corpse of the baby is yet to be found. The Suspect, who was arrested by the Niger state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), said he took the step because the mother of the baby refused to accept the baby and left him in his custody. Rwanda agrees to take in African refugees stuck in Libya (Guardian)
Rwanda agreed Tuesday to take in hundreds and potentially thousands of African refugees and asylum-seekers stranded in Libya, a deal the African Union hopes to replicate with other member states. “We will be receiving the initial number of 500 in a few weeks,” Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, Rwanda’s ambassador to the AU, told a news conference after signing a memorandum of understanding alongside representatives of the AU and the UN refugee agency UNHCR. A schoolgirl was left ‘humiliated’ when teachers told her to change trousers, her mum said. Francesca Negus, 14, was ordered to choose between being placed in isolation or putting on a replacement pair of elasticated trousers from the school office. Russia-US spying: Moscow plays down story of ‘extracted agent’ (BBC)
Moscow has played down reports in American media that the US extracted a high-level spy from Russia in 2017 fearing his cover could be blown. The Kremlin said a man named by Russian media as Oleg Smolenkov was not a senior employee and had been fired. Fukushima: Radioactive water may be dumped in Pacific (BBC)
Japan’s environment minister says contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant may have to be released into the ocean because storage space will run out in 2022. More than a million tonnes of water that has been used to cool melted reactors is kept in giant tanks. Cyclist headbutts pedestrian who told him off for jumping red light (Metro)
Police are hunting a cyclist who headbutted a City worker to the ground after a near-miss on a pedestrian crossing. The cyclist ran a red light in Farringdon Street in the City of London at around 1.45pm on August 22, narrowly avoiding hitting the pedestrian who was crossing the road. He then got off his bike, came back towards the businessman and headbutted him in the face, calmly cycling away as his victim lay sprawled on the pavement. Read more

A mum has accused her son’s school of discrimination after he was removed from class for sporting a mohican. Ethan Lewis, 12, who struggles with learning difficulties, was told by teachers at Strood Academy, in Rochester, that he had broken uniform rules with the haircut. Robert Frank, one of the most influential photographers of the 20th Century has died at the age of 94. Frank, who was born in Switzerland but emigrated to the United States in 1947, was best known for his work The Americans – a book which chronicled his 10,000-mile journey across America at the height of the Cold War. A Division two football club in Kano FA league, Super Stars club, has signed a new player, Ibrahim Salisu Iriyos, for the sum of N5, 000. Iriyos used to play for Aston Villa Gano, before his transfer to Super Stars. Everton defender Yerry Mina has been hit with a £10,000 fine by the FA for his appearance in a Colombian betting advert. The 24-year-old turns in a pretty impressive display in the ‘Betjuego’ ad, in which he plays a range of characters, including a baker and a dancer. Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher is undergoing stem-cell therapy at a hospital in Paris, according to reports in France. In December 2013, Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma for six months following a skiing accident in the French Alps.
