Ambode receives Africa’s football legends (Nation)
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday received top Africa’s football legends at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja. They will be participating in a testimonial match for the governor as part of activities marking the end of tenure of his administration.
Some of the soccer legends who visited the governor include: Kanu Nwankwo, Finidi George, Victor Ikpeba, El Hadji Diouf, Diomansy Kamara, Didier Zokora, Khalilou Fadiga, Austin Eguavoen, Mutiu Adepoju, Waidi Akanni, Uche Okechukwu and Seydou Keita. Read more
Son kills father for preventing him from going out (Punch)
One Babatunde Olagesin is currently cooling his heels in police custody after he allegedly hacked his father, Taiwo Olagesin, to death with a cutlass.
City Round learnt that a fight broke out between the father and son on Monday, May 6, 2019 in their residence in the Ijoko area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that the suspect had wanted to leave home for Oshodi, Lagos State, around 6am, but was prevented by his father, who insisted that he (son) would accompany him somewhere. Read more
Lagos finances are secure, says Ambode (Vanguard)
Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday commissioned the new digitized central storage facility of the State Treasury Office (STO), saying it was gratifying to note that the financial outlook of the State is very positive.
The Governor also commissioned dualised Bisola Durosinmi Etti Road and new Hakeem Dickson Road in Lekki, Eti-Osa. Read more

It was the end of road for three suspected members of a robbery gang, which specialised in snatching exotic vehicles from women in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

EFCC arrests herbalist for impersonating GMD NNPC, others (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a 31-year-old Islamic scholar and herbalist, Jamiu Isiaka, for allegedly impersonating the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, among other prominent citizens.
The EFCC’s acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, in a statement, said the suspect, with others who were still at large, allegedly used the names of the senior government officials to scam a South Korean national, Keun Sig Kim, under the pretence of getting him an NNPC licence that would enable him purchase a company. Kano Police intercept 303 cartons of Tramadol worth N2bn (Nation)
Kano State Police Command yesterday made a big haul, following the seizure of 303 cartons of hard drugs, comprising of tramadol tablets, valued at N1 billion.
Briefing reporters at the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai, the Commissioner of Police, Wikili Mohammed, said the seizure, followed a tip-off, prompting a police special squad to impound the 303 carton at No. 157, Miller Road, Bompai, in the Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state. Onnoghen’s suspension stands, S’Court rules (Leadership)
In a split decision of six to one, the Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the suit filed by the Cross River State government against the suspension and trial of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The apex court described the suit as incompetent. In her dissenting judgement, Justice Mary Peter-Odili granted all the reliefs sought by the plaintiff after holding that it has the locus standi to institute the action. Read more
