ANA Lagos on the march again for national convention (Punch)

For the Lagos State branch of the Association of Nigerian Authors, the song that should rule the waves now is ‘On the March again’. The leadership of the group may borrow this from the MKO Abiola legendary campaign organisation as it is set to host the 2018 edition of the ANA Convention. The last time it did this was 1995, when it hosted the country’s pen pushers at the University of Lagos. The summit was, however, practically wrecked by the Sanni Abacha regime when it hanged writer and activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and eight other Ogoni men on the day the writers’ conference peaked. Indeed, it was on a Saturday the writers were billed to hold what is called the Festival of Life that news broke that the military had hanged the men. So hurting was the development for the writers that the festival of life became a feast of death and its attendant agony. Read more
