Anambra State triumphs again as visually impaired student emerges WAEC top performer

In a remarkable display of academic prowess, Anambra State takes pride as Miss Precious Nzube Mbajiorgu emerges as the top-performing candidate among visually impaired students nationwide in the 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate examination by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Hailing from Ihiala in Anambra State, the 21-year-old student, who lost her sight to glaucoma in 2008, showcased exceptional resilience and dedication in her academic journey. Writing the examination at St John of God Secondary School in Awka, Ms. Mbajiorgu’s stellar performance in all nine subjects has earned her the prestigious Best WAEC Student Award for Handicapped Candidates.

Currently pursuing a degree in guidance and counselling at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Ms. Mbajiorgu attributed her success to her unwavering determination, acknowledging the support of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to quality education and empowerment of physically challenged individuals.

Chief Greg Okafor, a Lagos-based lawyer and keen observer of Ms. Mbajiorgu’s educational journey, praised her ambition and seriousness as a student. The recognition from WAEC serves not only as a testament to her academic excellence but also as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.

As Ms. Mbajiorgu sets her sights on an academic career, she dedicates her award to Governor Soludo, commending his inclusive approach to education and affirming his dedication to the well-being of all citizens, irrespective of physical abilities.
