Suspected burglar arrested on his way to sell stolen phones (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad have arrested a 27-year-old suspected burglar, Yusuf Ojo, while he was on his way to dispose of three stolen mobile phones belonging to his benefactor.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Ojo was apprehended at around 5:00 am on Wednesday in Oshodi, Lagos. (Read more)
Furniture maker allegedly dies by suicide a year after abduction ordeal (Guardian)
About a year after Lagos-based furniture maker Tobiloba Samuel Omoosumi, popularly known as Tobywood, regained freedom from kidnappers, he has reportedly died by suicide.
Tobywood was abducted on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, while on his way to Mushin, Lagos, to purchase materials for his work. He regained his freedom a week later.
Following his ordeal, Omoosumi’s online presence diminished significantly, raising concerns among friends and fans about his safety and mental health. Described by a friend identified as Ella as one of the happiest people she knew, Tobywood was reportedly full of life, dancing and cheerful in church, even after enduring his traumatic experience. However, she noted he took his life when it seemed he was beginning to recover. (Read more)
Police deny movement restrictions, ban on journalists at Lagos Assembly (Vanguard)
Lagos State Police Command said reports that its personnel have restricted movement and barred journalists from the state house of assembly are false.
The assembly has been engulfed in a leadership crisis since the impeachment of speaker Mudashiru Obasa in January by 36 out of 40 lawmakers.

Navy seizes 213 smuggled bags of rice in Lagos (Punch)
Officers of the Nigerian Naval Base in the Epe area of Lagos State have intercepted a major smuggling operation along the Epe-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The Executive Officer of the Naval Base, Commander Chukwudi Atuba, made this known in a statement sent to PUNCH Metro on Monday.
He stated that the operation took place on January 22 based on intelligence reports indicating the movement of illicit goods while the patrol team swiftly acted, successfully thwarting the smuggling attempt. (Read more)
Enforcement of Okada ban: Task force impounds 82 motorcycles (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Task Force, in a surprise operation yesterday, stormed Mile 2 on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and impounded no fewer than 82 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.
However, no operator was arrested. TaskForce Public Relations Officer, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, who confirmed the raid, said details would be given today.
The operation, which began around noon, aimed at enforcing the state government’s ban on commercial motorcycle operators in the area. However, it turned chaotic as some commercial motorcyclists attempted to flee. (Read more)
Police arrested 35 robbery suspects in one week – Lagos PPRO (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested at least 35 traffic robbery suspects in a series of operations conducted within a week, spanning areas from Ajah to Elemoro.

Lagos lecturer gets life jail for raping student (Punch)
An Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a part-time lecturer at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Kolawole Muyiwa, to life imprisonment for raping a student.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, who handed down the jail term, held that the prosecution was able to prove the ingredients of defilement against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.
The charge stated that Muyiwa committed the offence on October 11, 2021, at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, Lagos State. (Read More)
P-Square’s ex-manager remanded over suspected theft (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of the former manager of the defunct hip-hop music group, P-Square, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application over alleged $1m, and £34,000 theft.
Justice Oshodi ordered his remand after taking his plea.
Okoye and his Northside Music Limited Company were arraigned before the court on four counts bordering on stealing and conversion of $1m and £34,000 royalties got from the music digital distribution/publishing.
During the arraignment, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecution counsel, Mohammed Bashiru, told the court that Okoye and Northside Music Limited allegedly stole the sum of $1,019,763.87 and £34,537.59. (Read more)
Police arrest suspected ‘one-chance’ robber, recover vehicle (Guardian)
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Police Command in Lagos State have arrested a suspected one-chance robber (name withheld).

Hit-and-run driver kills 12-year-old student in Lagos, injures sibling (Vanguard)
A driver yet to be identified hit two female siblings returning from school on Monday along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The driver, according to a statement on Tuesday by the Lagos police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, was plying the BRT lane at high speed when he hit the siblings at Ogundare bus stop.
“On Monday, February 24, 2025 at about 1535hrs, a yet-to-be-identified driver, while plying the BRT lane on high speed at Ogundare bus-stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, hit two female pedestrians, siblings aged 12 and 15, on their way back from school,” the statement said. (Read more)
