Apapa Wharf road ready in September says, NPA MD (Guardian)

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Usman, has said that the 2km Apapa Wharf Road being reconstructed would be completed and opened to motorists by the end of next month. Usman made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday. The managing director said that the reconstruction which would cost N4.34 billion would enable the Federal Government to achieve its goals as regards the Ease of Doing Business. Read more

Lagos seals partnership with foreign firm on light rail project (Vanguard)

The Lagos State Government has signed a major agreement with an experienced international railway systems aggregator and rolling stocks manufacturer, Alstom SA of France on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) project as part of efforts to rev up the multi-modal transport system in the State. Following a comprehensive review of the rail project, which ought to have commenced passenger operation but had been hindered by unforeseen third party issues and other challenges, the State Government said the Marina to Mile 2 section of the project known as the Blue Line Rail, would now be ready for passenger operation by 2022. Lagosians demand more infrastructure, commend representatives (Nation)

Lagosians from across the state have called on their representatives in the state assembly to prevail on the state government to provide more link and inner roads, rid the state of waste, provide more drainages, hospitals, markets, light up areas not yet captured, more social infrastructure and economic empowerment. These were the demands of residents of Lagos at the 4th edition of the constituency stakeholders meeting organised by the state assembly which was held simultaneously in all the 40 state constituencies. Lagos PDP needs prayers for headway in 2019, says Ogunlewe (Vanguard)

Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, a former Minister of Works and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday called on party members in Lagos State to pray for peace and unity in their fold. Ogunlewe, a former senator, said without peace and unity the party could not rise above its present “challenges” toward realising its goal of winning the state in 2019. “What is needed in Lagos State PDP is prayers, prayers and prayers. “Members in the chapter should pray together for peace and unity so that the goals of the party can be actualised. “Members must particularly unite at this challenging period in order to get victory in 2019,’’ the PDP chieftain told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Governor’s Cup Lagos: LOC Trains Journalists (Independent)

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the annual Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis will on Monday, August 13 hold a one-day capacity building training for tennis reporters towards enhancing their reporting of the game of tennis. Aruna Quadri wins 2018 ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open (Nation)

Aruna Quadri has emerged winner of the 2018 ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open. The 30-year-old on Sunday emerged the first Nigerian to lift the annual ITTF Challenge trophy in Nigeria. The final concluding match of the 2018 event was an explosive 4-2 win over a France’s star player Antoine Hachard. The men’s single was concluded at Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, of Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday. Quadri received a star prize of $5,000  and a side bonus of N1M from Lagos State Governor; Akinwunmi Ambode as the best Nigerian player in the competition. CyclingLagos: Riders eye N17m star prize (Vanguard)

The organisers of CyclingLagos have announced a star prize of N1.7 million for the winners of the competition in the professional cadre. The much-anticipated CyclingLagos event which has the full endorsement of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) is expected to ride off on August 25. The Chairman Organising Committee, Soji Adeleye, said that the event would be one of the biggest cycling competitions in Nigeria due to the number of registered participants. Tell us about your journey into visual art. Actually when I was growing up, there was no orientation for me but I had the instinct in me that I can draw, that is I had artistic trait in me. I remember when I was in Primary three and I used to design on my textbooks. There was no fine art in our school curriculum, no encouragement. So, I was just drawing subconsciously. On getting home, I received serious flogging from my parents for drawing on my textbooks. To make matters worse, an uncle who was supporting my education advised me to stop drawing and face my studies. Read more
