APC members stage protest at Lagos Assembly  (Channels)

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly over the alleged planned imposition of appointees at the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) of the state.

The aggrieved APC party members are also demanding the removal of the partyโ€™s state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.

The protesters, believed to be representatives from all 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the state, gathered in large numbers, chanting slogans and holding placards with inscriptions such as โ€˜Ojelabi Must Goโ€™ and โ€˜We Want Fresh Leadershipโ€™. Read more 

Police arrest bride, accomplices over staged kidnap (Guardian)

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have uncovered a staged abduction orchestrated by a newlywed woman in a desperate bid to recover wedding expenses.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed โ€œwhat was initially believed to be a case of kidnapping but later turned out to be a self-abducted caseโ€, told The Guardian in Asaba on Monday that the operatives arrested all suspects involved in such criminal deceit, saying, โ€œthe law will take its full course.โ€

Edafe stated that the Command received a distress report about the abduction of a female victim by unknown armed men in the Bonsaac area of Asaba, on July 21, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m. Read more 

Kaduna to distribute 400 trucks of free fertilisers to 100k smallholder farmers (Nation)

The Kaduna State Government has unveiled plans to distribute 400 trucks of free fertilisers to 100,000 smallholder farmers as part of a major intervention to boost food security, reduce agricultural costs, and support rural livelihoods.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, announced the initiative during a press briefing following a multi-stakeholder committee meeting ahead of the rollout.

According to Dabo, Kaduna is currently the only state in Nigeria offering fertilisers free of charge to smallholder farmers. โ€œOur target is to directly reach 100,000 vulnerable farmers, ensuring that even the poorest are not left behind,โ€ he said. Read more 

Police recover body of Kogi journalist murdered by colleague (Vanguard)

The Police Command in Kogi has confirmed the recovery of the body of Mr Ayo Aiyepeku, a photo-journalist, allegedly murdered by his colleague, Oluwapelumi Adebayo.

The commandโ€™s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday day in Lokoja.

Ovye-Aya explained that Ayobamiโ€™s corpse was found on Sunday evening at a location around WAEC office, Crusher Zone 8 axis in Lokoja. Read more

Massacre in Congolese Catholic church kills at least 31 worshippers (CNA)

An armed group linked to the Islamic State on Sunday killed dozens of worshippers at a Catholic church in the northwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo while they were participating in a prayer vigil.

According to the BBC, members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) stormed a church in the town of Komanda, where they shot and killed the worshippers, then looted and set fire to nearby businesses.
