The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola, as the Governor-elect of Osun State. Fuel supply threatened as oil workers join strike (Punch)
The supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country are under threat as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Association have joined the strike ordered by the Nigeria Labour Congress. The NLC on Wednesday directed all its members and affiliate unions to commence a nationwide strike on Thursday, following the failure of a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Wednesday, to produce the expected outcome. The Niger State Police Command has apprehended one Shuaibu Abdullahi, 22, for allegedly kidnapping Bello Umar of Vunu Village in the Lavun Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was trailed and arrested by the police detectives attached to Lemu Division on a tip-off. It was learnt the suspect had sometime in August this year invaded the village in collaboration with three other members of his gang who are now at large and kidnapped Umar for ransom. Read more

Spanish champions Barcelona claimed Thursday that they were on course to set a new record turnover of 960 million euros for the 2018/19 season with a net profit of 11 million euros. According to the budget estimate approved by the club’s board of directors, in the 2017/18 season, Barcelona had a turnover of 914 million euros, exceeding its forecast of 897 million euros, for a profit of 32 million. A former student of Hillcrest School, Jos, has dragged the school authorities before a Jos Federal High Court, demanding N100m as damages over the `deliberate cancellation’’ of his admission. The minor, who sued the school through his friend and guardian, Mr Steve Gukas, accused Hillcrest School management of breaching his fundamental human rights to education by denying him the opportunity to continue his studies in the school. Police arrest 20-year-old, one other for kidnap in Imo (Punch)
The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old-man, Victor Onumajuru, and his 25-year-old accomplice, Chibyke Chikere for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl. Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, revealed that the suspects abducted and raped their victim on August 29 at their hideout. Read more

Water vendor, 62, defiles five-year-old girl, gives her N20 (Punch)
There was commotion in Akute Odo, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, after a 62-year-old man, identified only as Wadada, allegedly defiled a five-year-old girl.
