Emmanuel Petit has branded Mesut Ozil a ‘ghost’ and fears Arsenal face the prospect of another Anfield thrashing on Saturday.
The Gunners were thumped 4-0 by current League leaders Liverpool in the corresponding fixture last season and the former Arsenal midfielder believes Unai Emery’s makeshift defence will crumble against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Ozil, meanwhile, was substituted at half time in the disappointing 1-1 draw against Brighton on Boxing Day and Petit was left frustrated at the German’s sub-standard performance.
‘Where is the Ozil who was one of the best players around, making so many assists and goals?” Pettit told PaddyPower. “I think he has lost his desire on the pitch, it’s not there any more.
