Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury in Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Chelsea, his club said in a statement on Tuesday.
Bellerin will have surgery to repair the injury to his left knee in the coming days and the Spain international’s rehabilitation is expected to take between six and nine months.
The 23-year-old, who was making his first start after returning from a calf injury, went down clutching his knee while challenging for the ball in the second half and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.
His injury is another blow to manager Unai Emery, who had already lost defender Rob Holding for the rest of the season to a similar knee problem last month. Read more
