Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress are protesting in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital, in solidarity with the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The protest which is currently holding is also an opportunity for the NLC to bring attention to other issues affecting the nation.
The scores of protesters who stormed the street carried placards with several inscriptions such as โStop importation of petrol, refine the refineriesโ, โNigeria at 60 years of independence, more hunger in the landโ, etc.
Another placard read, โReduce the cost of governance now, save the masses from poverty and hunger.โ
The nationwide protest organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress is in solidarity with ASUU over the strike that lasted five months on July 14, 2022.
The police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have deployed personnel in critical infrastructure and facilities in response to the strike.
The Nigeria Labour Congress had on Monday directed workers in state capitals and Abuja to join the protest. (Punch)
