Ataga: Police forced me to write false statement, says Chidinma (Punch)
Chidinma Ojukwu, a former 300-level Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos, on Tuesday, told a Lagos State High Court that every statement she made to the police during interrogation was false and made under duress.
Chidinma is standing trial for the alleged murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Michael Usifo Ataga.
In her defence before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, Chidinma said fear prevented her from speaking the truth during her interactions with the police. (Read more)
Police arrest 16-year-old boy with gun in Lagos (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy, Solomon Ibiwoye, after he was found in possession of a firearm in the Ebute-Ero area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, praising alert residents for their role in the incident.

Lagos socialite, E-money freed after EFCC questioning over Naira abuse (Punch)
After hours of questioning by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo (a.k.a. E-Money) purportedly regained his release on Tuesday evening.
E-money had been picked on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and taken to the commissionโs office in Abuja for questioning.

Suspected cultists shoot YABATECH student dead (Punch)
The police have arrested seven suspects after a yet-to-be-identified student of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, was shot dead in a suspected cult-related attack.
PUNCH Metro learnt the incident occurred on Tuesday shortly after students concluded their examinations for the day.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was heading towards the back gate of the institution when some armed men accosted him, pulled out a gun and shot him at close range. (Read more)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested eight suspects for their alleged involvement in several cult-related killings within the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in the state and its environs.
The command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed in a statement that the eight suspects were arrested on Tuesday following an intelligence-led operation by police operatives.

Alleged Defamation: Court Strikes Out Falanaโs Suit Against VDM (Channels)
A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday struck out the defamation suit filed against blogger Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkblackman (VDM).
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana; and his son, Folarin popularly known as Falz; had filed the defamation suit against VDM following the comments and video he published on September 24, 2024 on his social media handles and pages.
The Falanas had dragged the defendant before the court in separate suits, claiming N500 million each as damages over a video he posted on his social media platforms alleging that they collected N10 million from Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, to pervert the cause of justice. (Read more)
Court orders interim forfeiture of 73 properties linked to cybercrime, money laundering (TheNation)
Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) an order for the interim forfeiture of 73 properties suspected to be instruments of computer-related fraud and money laundering.
The court also directed the EFCC to publish the order in a national newspaper, inviting interested parties to appear within 14 days to show cause why a final forfeiture order should not be granted in favour of the federal government.
The order, granted on April 23, 2025, in suit number FHC/L/MISC/382/2025, followed a motion ex parte filed by the EFCC against a firm, Genting International Co., and argued by EFCC counsel B.M. Isah. (Read more)
Human trafficking: 231 Nigerians to arrive Lagos Friday after rescue in Ghana (Vanguard)
No fewer than 231 Nigerians are expected to arrive in Lagos on Friday following the rescue of 219 young nationals trafficked to Ghana and coerced into cybercrime activities.
