Under the sacred trees of Otumusa, ancestral home of the Bahumono people in Abi Local Council, Cross River State, drums echoed, and chants filled the air as the community commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Bahumono Peace Accord.

The event, held on June 20, 2025, celebrated a collective decision to abandon violence and embrace dialogue after years of inter-communal strife.

The Bahumono Nation, comprising nine interconnected communitiesโ€”Ediba, Usumutong, Ebijakara, Ebom, Afafanyin, Igonigoni, Anong, Abeygo, and Bazohureโ€”endured years of violent clashes over land disputes and generational grievances. Auto crash claims policeman, 7 others (Punch)

A senior police officer and seven other passengers have lost their lives in an auto crash on the Gombe corridor of the Gombeโ€“Yola Federal Highway.

PUNCH Metro learnt from the state police command on Thursday that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

While the police confirmed to PUNCH Metro that the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated, the spokesperson for the command, Buhari Abdullahi, said the officer was heading to Nasarawa State before the crash. Read more

Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has met with the suspended Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule and other aggrieved state lawmakers. 

Multiple sources confirmed on Thursday evening the meeting held and ended with Fubara holding the hands of Amaewhule as they shared jokes and laughter.

NJC sends 10 Imo judges on compulsory retirement (Vanguard)

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has approved the compulsory retirement of 10 Judges of Imo State Judiciary.

The council, in a press release it issued late in the night on Thursday, disclosed that nine of the affected Judges falsified their dates of birth in a bid to perpetuate themselves in office.

It equally okayed the retirement of Justice T. N. Nzeukwu for allowing himself to be sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of the Imo State High Court, even though he was the fourth in the hierarchy of Judges of the Imo State Judiciary. Read more

The former tax leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) stated this on Channels Televisionโ€™s Politics Today on Thursday, a few hours after President Bola Tinubu assented to four new tax bills.

Diddy Case: Prosecutors no longer planning to proceed on attempted kidnapping & arson theories (Complex)

Prosecutors in Diddyโ€™s federal case said this week they are โ€œno longer planning to proceedโ€ on theories of liability including attempted kidnapping and attempted arson.

As seen in a filing dated June 24, excerpted below, the government told Judge Arun Subramanian that it had โ€œremoved instructionsโ€ for jurors from the charge relating to attempted kidnapping under California and New York law; attempted arson under California law; and aiding and abetting sex trafficking.

Man behind viral video of fight at Ibiza hotel pool is a pro-footballer (Metro)

Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt has been identified as the man who threw a chair at a woman during a poolside fight at a hotel in Ibiza.

The 23-year-old was involved in a fight between two groups of men at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio.

In the footage, Harratt can be seen throwing a white chair in the direction of a group of men following an argument, however, it hit a woman who appeared to be attempting to break up the confrontation. Read more
