Barcelona have ended Manchester United’s hopes of signing Ousmane Dembele this summer after the club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, described the Frenchman as ‘untouchable’.
The winger has been touted as an alternative to Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho, who looks set to stay in Germany after the club’s deadline passed without United meeting their £108million asking price.
Dembele is considered a fall-back option given the 23-year-old is still regarded as one of the finest talents in the world, despite his struggles at the Camp Nou since joining from Dortmund in 2017.
Barcelona are set for a widespread revamp this summer following their Champions League humiliation against Bayern Munich and the likes of Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Arturo Vidal, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho are all likely to be sold. However, in a wide-ranging interview on Tuesday night, Bartomeu insisted that Dembele is one of a small number of unsellable players this summer. (Metro)
